  The Downtown Investment Authority Department is actively seeking one (1) Parking Equipment Mechanic.

  Did you know as a City of Jacksonville employee, you would also have 12 paid holidays and a personal leave day as well?   This is service maintenance work at the semi-skilled level in inspecting, repairing and maintaining parking facility equipment and parking meters, including the collection of revenue from parking meters. Work requires knowledge of standardized work routines and procedures for maintenance operations of parking facilities and parking meters. Contacts require courtesy, tact, and effectiveness in dealing with others to request or provide information, ask questions, or obtain clarification. Work is performed following established routines, standing instructions, and established procedures and involves similar situations requiring choice of correct procedures. Work is performed primarily outdoors with exposure to weather conditions. Operates a personal computer, two-way radio, vehicles, tools and equipment associated with parking meter maintenance. Physical demands consist of standing, walking, reaching, bending, stooping and lifting objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Work is performed in extreme weather conditions and under general supervision where the work assignments are subject to instructions and established work routines, and the worker is given latitude to rearrange the sequence based on changing situations.

  Examples of Work

  Inspects, services, makes minor repairs to and reports major repairs needed for mechanical equipment such as meter time clocks and pay and display units and bag meters when required.

  Inspects, maintains, repairs, rebuilds, and replaces parking meters.

  Installs, removes and maintains meter posts to include painting.

  Prepares and maintains records on completed tasks.

  Respond to customer requests for malfunctioning equipment

  Collects revenue from meters and secures and delivers monies to proper authorities.

  Checks operating and safety conditions of vehicles, performs minor servicing and reports needed repairs or major servicing.

  Operates standard office equipment such as personal computer, two-way radio, vehicles, tools and equipment associated with parking meter maintenance.

  Demonstrates proficiency in the City of Jacksonville's competencies.

  Performs related work as required.

  Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  Knowledge of the routines and procedures involved in inspecting, repairing and maintaining and parking meters, including revenue collection from parking meters.

  Knowledge of the various types, operation and uses of tools, equipment and materials utilized in parking meter maintenance.

  Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions for parking maintenance work.

  Ability to inspect, service trouble shoot and make minor repairs to electronic and mechanical equipment.

  Ability to operate a standard office equipment such as personal computer, two-way radio, vehicles, tools and equipment associated with parking meter maintenance.

  Ability to follow the established customer service policy

  Ability to prepare and maintain records.

  Ability to check operating and safety conditions of vehicles and perform minor servicing.

  Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions including rules and regulations.

  OPEN REQUIREMENTS:

  One year of education and/or experience in the servicing and minor repair of electrical/electronic and mechanical equipment.

  Must be bondable.

  LICENSING/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION:

  A valid driver's license is required prior to appointment and must be maintained during employment in this class.

  Must qualify for prior to appointment, obtain, and maintain during employment in this class a City of Jacksonville certification as a public driver.

  OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  The probationary period for this class is six months.
