  Your Specific Responsibilities:

  The individual in this position will investigate and respond to healthcare acquired infections (HAI) in medical settings, developing / coordinating / conducting local public health surveillance activities of HAIs, analysis of surveillance data, interpretation of findings, and utilizing surveillance data to improve health outcomes through communication and collaboration.

  Healthcare acquired infection (HAI) Investigations

  Attend HAI team meetings including but not limited to weekly HAI team calls, bi-weekly regional updates, and quarterly Advisory Board.

  Respond to daily assignments from HAI Prevention Program’s Project Assistants.

  Identify facilities for preventative ICARs and perform as needed or per request.

  Conduct a minimum of 10 ICAR assessments (on site) within health care facilities (e.g., dialysis, LTCFs, dental, outpatient, hospitals), rehabilitation centers and additional group settings as needed and identified each month.

  Provide written report with outbreak recommendations (e.g., COVID-19, Candida auris, Dialysis BSI) within 72 hours of the completed assessment to the facility.

  Provide written report with preventative recommendations (e.g., COVID-19, Candida auris, Dialysis BSI) within 1 week of the completed assessment to the facility.

  Conduct follow up assessment within 3 weeks of completed report to evaluate for implementation of recommendations, as appropriate.

  Coordinate laboratory support for testing and typing of specimens and isolates.

  Provide appropriate containment and transmission guidance for novel or targeted multi-drug resistant organisms (MDROs).

  Utilize Florida’s surveillance system, Merlin, to track outbreaks and investigations.

  Serve as subject matter experts on CDC guidance.

  Provide specific data to support and identify trends of targeted organism(s) at a local level

  Work with facilities (e.g., long term care facilities, dialysis facilities, dental, outpatient care facilities, rehab centers, and additional group settings as needed and identified) to improve infection prevention activities, outbreak detection and reporting.

  Investigate MDRO/HAI outbreaks as needed.

  Analyzing Merlin and NHSN data to identify opportunities for improving emerging threat detection and making recommendations for health care facilities that have the greatest need for improvement based on surveillance data.

  Consult Project Firstline Educators and County/Multi-County Infection Preventionist to provide onsite education and training in response to identified infection control gaps.

  Submit completed reports into the appropriate HAI SharePoint folder and REDCap, if applicable.

  Provide additional support for regional trainings in collaboration with Project Firstline Educators in each region for LTCF on infection prevention and control.

  Using NHSN and Merlin data to assist with HAI-related response and mitigation efforts.

  Work with identified CHD liaisons to assess areas of concern and priorities for outreach.

  Collaborate with BOE to implement regional HAI outbreak response trainings/drills.

  Assist with regional HAI outbreak response trainings/drills (e.g., acute care hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, long term acute care hospitals, BPHL, CHDs, coalition groups).

  Performs other related duties as assigned with Dialysis Infection Prevention Lead, Antimicrobial Stewardship Lead, MDRO Prevention Epidemiologist Lead, HAI Outbreak ICAR Epidemiologist Lead, Non-AR/MDRO Lead, Project Firstline Coordinator, NHSN Coordinator Lead, Nurse Home Strike Team Lead, Senior Infection Preventionist, HAI Prevention Program Manager, and county health department.

  General:

  Completes EARS, Timesheets, and People First Entries within mandatory time frames

  Schedules time off in advance and collaborates with nursing supervisors to ensure work responsibilities are covered when absent

  Complies with SMART expectations related to position

  Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  Knowledge of the terminology, principles and techniques used in biological research, analysis or testing.

  Knowledge of the procedures, techniques and equipment used in laboratory testing and analysis.

  Knowledge of the methods of data collection.

  Skill in the use of scientific laboratory and field equipment.

  Ability to collect, record and analyze scientific data relating to the biological sciences.

  Ability to conduct biological research, studies or analyses using scientific methods and techniques.

  Ability to perform quantitative analysis of scientific data.

  Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.

  Ability to communicate effectively.

  Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

  Ability to work independently.

  Ability to utilize problem-solving techniques.

  Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures relating to the biological sciences.

  Qualifications:

  Minimum

  This occupation requires licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in accordance with Chapter 464, Florida Statutes or eligible to practice nursing in accordance with Florida Administrative Code 210-8.22 or 8.27 or Certification as a Physician's Assistant in accordance with Chapter 458, Florida Statutes.

  Position requires a valid Florida Driver's License and access to private transportation.

  Preferred

  Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology CIC Certification- Preferred.
