  Job Description

  Position Title: Operator Technician I or II (LCS)

  OPEN UNTIL FILLED

  Department/Location: Office of Chief Ops Officer; Lonesome Creek Station/Alexander, ND

  Company : Basin Electric Power Cooperative

  Position Purpose:

  This position operates and maintains the gas turbine generating units, all electrical, mechanical, and electronic equipment. The incumbent operates and maintains additional plant systems at the Lonesome Creek Generation Station (LCS).

  Essential Functions:

  Perform all duties in a safe and efficient manner in compliance with safe work procedures and safety regulations.

  Maintain all Ammonia training in reference to Homeland Security and Risk management Plan.

  Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance and trouble shoot to solve station mechanical and technical problems.

  Develop Preventative Maintenance procedures and corresponding Job Safety Analysis (JSA).

  Perform warehousing responsibilities, such as receiving and shipping of materials.

  Monitor and accept all Southwest Power Pool (SPP) Day ahead market awards.

  Ensure all engines are started and stopped as scheduled to prevent economic penalties.

  Receive all calls from Basin Real Time Marketing for SPP self-commitments in the Market.

  Properly enter all outages and de-rates in the PCI software system

  Operate the station within the environmental requirements and operate units from the control room.

  Perform and support all planned outages with contractors

  Implement or issue equipment clearances in preparation for inspection, testing, or maintenance. On return of clearance, inspect and return the equipment to normal operation. Follow prescribed clearance procedures, and assist with the development of new procedures, as needed.

  Develop operating procedures with corresponding JSA and write technical procedures; update logs and reports on plant equipment maintenance;

  Perform ground maintenance (mowing, watering, removing snow), paints, and cleans buildings.

  Direct activities of other support or contract personnel and other delegated functions in the absence of the Operations and Maintenance Supervisor.

  Qualifications:

  Operator Technician II:

  Completion of a two-year power plant technology program and three years of operation or maintenance experience in an industrial, coal-based/combustion turbine generation, or combined cycle generation power plant; or

  A high school diploma or equivalent (GED or HSED) and four years of operation or maintenance experience in an industrial, coal-based/combustion turbine generation, or combined cycle generation power plant experience.

  Operator Technician I:

  Completion of a two-year power plant technology program and four years of operation or maintenance experience in an industrial, coal-based/combustion turbine generation, or combined cycle generation power plant; or

  A high school diploma or equivalent (GED or HSED) and five years of operation or maintenance experience in an industrial, coal-based/combustion turbine generation, or combined cycle generation power plant experience.

  Other Requirements:

  The incumbent must be able to demonstrate effective verbal and written communication skills.

  Must have knowledge of plant operating procedures and equipment, including pollution control equipment.

  A valid driver’s license is required.

  Typical Physical/Mental/Environmental Demands:

  This position requires continuous sitting, standing, walking, climbing, and reaching; frequent bending, kneeling, and using keyboard/computer; and occasional crawling, pushing, pulling, and lifting up to 50 pounds. This position requires finger dexterity, good color vision and hearing. Working conditions may frequently include chemicals and noise; and occasionally extreme heat, cold, dirt, and dust. The incumbent will also be required to work occasionally at heights up to 200 feet, which requires the use of safety equipment, including a harness, in accordance with ANSI Z359 standards. This position must be respirator qualified and able to operate a motor vehicle.
