Key JobResponsibilities Setup and operatean automatic welding machine to weldseams which are adaptable to automatic, submerged arc welding on thisfacility. Lays out work, assembles and tack welds pieces and sections toform weldment. Load/unload & operate stress relief oven. Load/unload &operate table blaster equipment. Receives work assignment; setup, andwelding specifications. Secures and examines drawings to determinelayout, plan sequence of operations, and visualize completed weldment;determines shrinkage and distortion allowance and plans sub-units whenrequired. Initiates, through supervision, the correction of errors byEngineering or Processing. Lays out work on set-up table, applying shopmathematics and using appropriate measuring and marking tools asrequired; may use templates and/or fixtures; occasionally improvisesfixture for job. When required, uses fork truck to facilitate setupduties. Assembles pieces according to layout, tack welds together, andwelds areas that become inaccessible during setup, using arc weldingequipment; trims pieces with gas or air arc torch when necessary toobtain accurate fit; burns out holes in weldment when required; heatsareas as required with gas torch to fit or straighten piece or weldment.Stamps order and drawing number on weldment. Installs proper diameterwire on reel; refills compound hopper as needed. Inspect and performspreventative maintenance on welding fixtures, tooling and roboticperipheral equipment. Sets current, carriage speed, and voltage control;mounts proper contact jaws; installs fiber nozzle, and checks distanceof weld wire protruding from the nozzle.
