R&D Mechanical TechnicianPrimary FunctionAssist and execute laboratory tests and experiments following technical specifications, quality procedures/work instructions and safety adherence.This position identifies laboratory work which requires a high degree of manipulative or other special skills acquired through experience, coupled with technical training and application of knowledge in the area of specialization.SafetyKnow and use appropriate Personal Protective EquipmentHave a knowledge/use of rules and follow job specific safety requirements (Radiological/stored energy/chemical/industrial/etc)Work safely with job hazards such as high heat and stored energy/work safely with hazardous materialsQuality AdherenceTrain, document and, adhere to quality procedures/work instructions and specified Westinghouse quality requirementsUnderstand gaps in quality procedures/work instructionsTechnical Planning and ExecutionCollect and process data from testing following proceduresFabricate test equipmentPlans technical approach by setting up and conducting experiments with support of higher coded technicians or engineersSupport and assist identification of test equipment with higher codesExecute specific work steps in accordance with engineering test plans, industry specifications and standardsLab Ownership and MaintenanceSupport maintenance of lab equipmentRoutine housekeeping and material disposalAssist in identifying calibration needs of equipmentUtilize lean manufacturing processes such as "5S"Support lab ownership including the general oversight operations and ability to address all necessary issues with oversight from Lab owners.AdministrativePerform routine records maintenanceEnsure all time entries are correct and up to dateKnowledge and use of Westinghouse specific administrative and tracking systems including the corrective action process, Human Performance toolsManage inventory including tools, partsDIRECTIONS RECEIVED:Receives technical specifications, instructions, and advice, applies work methods and techniques, detailed instruction provided for unusual work, technical adequacy reviewed at critical points or at completion.General guidance available as technical need arises.
EDUCATION REQUIEMENTS:Associate's degree in engineering or technical curriculum.No amount of experience will be permitted to substitute for the required education in Laboratory Tech 10 position.However, recognized technical programs from accredited institutions will be permitted to substitute for required formal education.Preference will be given to Navel Nuclear or military programsEXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:Knowledge of one or more of the following disciplinesMachining, auto clavesMechanical TestingRemote manipulators, remote testing, and machining of specimensElectrical construction (welding, soldering)Mechanical construction (drilling, cutting), metallography, electron-optics, metrology, test set-ups, testing plans, radiological handling, and testingSpecific desired skills in computers and Microsoft office suitesHigh consideration for those that have Mechanical Testing and/or Electron Optics background or experience.
