　　 Description This position serves as a healthcare professional who, under the direction and supervision of a licensed physician, will provide care to patients seen at the Stony Brook Medicine division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology ambulatory office, located at 3 Technology Drive in East Setauket, NY. The physician extender is expected to maintain and enhance a current level of knowledge relative to professional practice, as well as meet the requirements necessary for licensure and certification. The following duties will be expected:

　　Conduct comprehensive or episodic health assessment of GI patients with an emphasis on Inflammatory Bowel Disease.Establish medical diagnosis, order and evaluate diagnostic studies, prescribe and regulate medications, perform and monitor therapeutic procedures, assess and/or manage follow up plans within the protocols and practice privileges approved by the supervising physician and consistent with established policies and procedures, and make patient phone calls as needed.Record and document health appraisal data necessary to maintain, coordinate and/or expedite required services.Maintain ongoing communication with Physician Collaborator.Assist with insurance authorization process for medical therapies in IBD patients.Act as a resource and consultant to health care staff.Participate in Inflammatory Bowel Disease related research projects.

　　 Qualifications REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

　　Physician Assistant: NYS license and certification as a Physician Assistant. Bachelor's degree (foreign equivalent or higher) from an accredited school of Physician Assistants.

　　Nurse Practitioner: NYS license and certification as a Nurse Practitioner. Master's degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in nursing or completion of a course for a Nurse Practitioner.

　　PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

　　Experience working in a busy outpatient GI office with previous patient care experience in Inflammatory Bowel Disease.
