Job Summary This office and field position requires advanced knowledge in the areas of science and/or engineering obtained through specialized intellectual instruction and requires the ability to work independently on assignments requiring the consistent exercise of discretion and judgement to analyze, interpret or make deductions based on varying facts or circumstances. This position is primarily responsible for supporting the planning, selection, coordination, and implementation of scientific and engineering services to fully address the scope of work on environmental remediation and hazardous waste management projects in accordance with Company standards, regulatory criteria, and contractual obligations. This position also supports the preparation of parts of a design for remedial systems under the supervision of experienced engineers.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Environmental Engineer I typicalresponsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to the following:
Independently or as part of a team, prepare engineering calculations as well as environmental reports and plans.
Analyze and interpret environmental, site, and material data.
Perform cross-disciplinary safety/quality, project controls, procurement, and contracts, and estimating duties as assigned.
Report to the site and conduct field construction, engineering, and other miscellaneous field support services.
Maintain budget and schedule for assigned tasks.
Apply industry standards of practice for selected technology, adhering to regulatory codes, building codes, national/ local standards, and company policies and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
As directed, report to the field to perform and/or inspect or observe fieldwork, and review work of personnel, subcontractors and consultants to ensure compliance with approved plans and acceptable tolerances.
Complete related documentation (field reports, logs, meeting minutes, online submittal sites), in a timely and accurate manner.
Complete engineering calculations in determination of site conditions and in support of remedial design.
Help select and procure subcontractors and materials – including preparing scopes of work.
Maintain submittal log and inventory logs.
Support development of change logs and modification and cost proposals.
Key Requirements, Education, and Experience:
This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Management or related field from an accredited institution; a minimum of 48 hours of engineering, science (i.e., physics) and higher mathematics (calculus, differential and integral calculus, linear algebra, statistics) course work is required.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted for this requirement.
0-2 years of experience with prior internship in a related field preferred.
HAZWOPER 40 Hour Certification with current 8 Hour Refresher is desirable.
Engineer-in-training professional certification preferred or ability to obtain during tenure in this position.
Apply basic knowledge of general scientific and engineering principles and analytical tools, as directed.
Apply education of environmental processes, remediation technologies, design and construction technologies as directed.
Implement Federal environmental regulations, DoD guidelines, OSHA standards, USACE QC and Safety protocols, building codes/ standards, and FAR, as directed.
Communicate effectively by written and verbal means.
Perform multiple concurrent tasks and meet timelines, as directed.
Work well independently and in team settings.
Competent in using Microsoft Office products, email systems, and Windows (specifically the analytical functions in Excel).
Travel:
Travel domestically to office locations and project sites.WORKING CONDITIONS: This position requires the ability to utilize a keyboard and similar equipment typically found in an office environment. In addition, this position requires the following:
Intermittent exposure to repetitive motions of the wrists or hands
The ability to view a computer monitor and distinguish figures or symbols.
Climbing ladders, scaffolding, or similar equipment found on a construction job site.
Walking, standing, or sitting for extended periods.
Travel domestically to office locations and project sites.
Incumbents in this position must be able to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
Work in outdoor conditions that include inclement weather, heat, and humidity.
Work in an environment with dust, loud noise and/or vibrations.
Exposure to indoor and outdoor work environments with hazards typically found on a construction or hazardous waste site (moving vehicles & equipment, and potentially hazardous materials and environments).
