NewsNation is looking for an experienced Broadcast Operations Manager to help build and lead broadcast operations for national newscasts based in our Washington, DC, studios.
This opportunity is for someone who doesn't mind rolling up their sleeves and doing something few have done before – launch a new 24-hour news network—someone who regularly exceeds expectations and is obsessed with creating and improving standard operating procedures. You'll manage the day-to-day operations in a new newsroom filled with talented and eager staff.
Responsibilities (include but not limited to):
Manage day-to-day broadcast operations for NewsNation – including creating and implementing quality standards for directors, editors, studio and control room staff, and field crews.
Collaborate with Nexstar & NewsNation engineering to verify/ensure technical requirements of the control room automation, equipment, and studio are met.
Oversee and maintain technical aspects of the studio and control room, including maintaining the functioning and professional appearance of the studio set.
Help create and implement standard operating procedures.
Evaluate new technologies and make recommendations for budgeting/planning purposes.
Support bureau photographers and reporters.
Manage NewsNation TOC to improve acquisitions between affiliates.
Manage vehicle fleet and field gear for photographers.
Administer annual performance reviews with direct reports.
Identify and mentor top performers.
Additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
10-15 years of proven leadership managing broadcast operations teams and studios (newsroom experience strongly preferred but not required).
Extensive knowledge of control room automation, cameras, non-linear editing systems, ENG video playback and ingest systems, media management, and news acquisition equipment.
Strong attention to detail
A reasonable person who treats employees well and holds people up so they can meet or exceed the Nexstar standards.
The ability to work flexible hours is necessary – this is a news start-up!
