With growth comes opportunity. Galvion has an exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer III to join our team in Portsmouth, NH.
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING
As a Mechanical Engineer III you will be a critical part of the team to design and build the next generation of smart power and data management products for extremely rugged markets. This role will give you the opportunity to work on creating new mechanical enclosures and fixtures to incorporate innovative new technologies. You will be joining a global fast-paced team working with a number of strategic partners in order to bring the next generation of smart equipment to market.
You will work closely with both Systems Architecture and Electronic Engineers to produce electromechanical systems, designed to seamlessly integrate with the human and tough enough to survive in the most rugged environments.
YOU WILL BE EVALUATED ON YOUR ABILITY TO
People:
Use experience and technical expertise to lead small teams, lead process improvements and lead engineering excellence initiatives.
Provide guidance and mentorship to junior engineers.
Perform engineering calculations and analyses to model and predict component/subsystem performance, including mechanical stress analysis, thermal and heat transfer analysis, mechanical joint design, tolerance stack analysis, etc.
Own the relationship with technical resources at key suppliers.
Work with electrical engineers and technicians to identify key integration issues in the areas of thermal management, EMI, and fit.
Process:
All mechanical design/engineering activities in the product development life cycle, including but not limited to material selection, FEA, drawings, prototyping, BOMs, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, etc.
Lead the usage of engineering documentation software.
Use 3D printers, hand tools, and other equipment to bring prototypes and design concepts to life.
Facilitate and execute design reviews.
Develop and execute test plans to applicable standards.
Work and lead with multi-disciplinary teams and end-users to rapidly iterate designs.
Sustaining engineering support as needed.
Performance:
Deliver accurate and timely reports.
Work with the team to meet key project milestones on schedule and within budget.
Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or mechanical engineering technologies or equivalent combination of experience and education.
10+ years of relevant work experience required.
Experienced at leading small teams of engineering though a product development process.
The ability to plan and conceptualize systems, model in CAD, use analytical skills and software simulations to address thermal management, and then build and test to prove design.
Experienced with SolidWorks CAD tools for generating complex electromechanical system enclosures, hardware and other parts, as well as the production of assembly drawings.
Experience with electromechanical systems, cable design, wiring, connectors and grommeting.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO SUCCEED
Experience with Plastic Injection Molded Part Design, over molding, materials, and tooling sign off.
Experience with manufacturing processes such as machining, sheet metal/stamping, heat treating, and fastening is desired.
Experience with military environmental standards is desired.
Understanding of Lean concepts is desired.
