Long-term contract opportunity, supporting a remote work model!
System One is seeking to hire a highly motivated Mechanical Design Engineer for a long-term contract position, allowing remote support. (Occasional travel will be required to support meetings and other consulting work, which are commonly held in Chattanooga, TN; Oak Ridge, TN; or Wilmington, NC. Travel costs will be reimbursable.)
In this role, you will join the Mechanical Systems Engineering Team for our client based in Chattanooga, TN, contributing to projects focused on cutting-edge design technology in the nuclear industry. Candidates must have extensive experience in mechanical design project work, nuclear industry experience desired.
Responsibilities
Perform owner's acceptance reviews of contractor technical efforts to develop the design and construction permit application to ensure compliance with established criteria, sound engineering principles, and professional practices.
Identify omissions, discrepancies, inadequacies, and nonconformance with approved criteria.
Coordinate system design oversight with multiple organizations (internal and external) and disciplines to ensure quality, completeness, and safety of the design.
Communicate status work activities and brief management on technical issues, options for resolution, and facilitate decision making.
Provide expert technical advice and consultation in the field of mechanical system design to a multidisciplinary group of professional and technical personnel engaged in carrying out the design project.
Be responsible for making critical assessments and decisions as to the nature of technical problems, program requirements, and risks encountered in the development of the design. This work requires comprehensive, professional knowledge of several disciplines of engineering.
Consult with engineers in other organizations and disciplines to assist in identification and resolution of conflicts and recommend corrective action to prevent delays and facilitate completion of work.
Participate in meetings as required, including the preparation of meeting minutes as needed.
As requested, support the development of project infrastructure including procedures, schedule, and cost estimates.
Role may require "on-call" rotational assignments and overtime during peak periods.
May be required to travel to plant locations when performing assigned tasks and, as necessary, to be temporarily assigned to a field location.
Ideal Background
Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or other related engineering discipline from an ABET accredited curriculum, plus appropriate continuing education.
Must be able to obtain and maintain unescorted nuclear plant access and S-3 and S-4 medical qualifications when applicable.
Minimum of 10 years working in design engineering, related field for operating nuclear power plants, or other facilities in one or more of the following subjects: BWR NSSS Engineering, Steam Conversion Cycle Engineering, Nuclear HVAC System Engineering, or Radioactive Waste Processing.
Demonstrated expertise in engineering discipline.
Licensed Professional Engineer desirable.
