This is a position in welding vessels in the Ferry Division. Weld to permanently fuse metal parts of machinery and equipment. Examine parent metals and alloys in order to determine their strength and properties, and the amount of heat to be applied. Work is characterized by requirements for close tolerance welding and welding in a variety of positions. Potential applicants will be administered a basic welding skills test.
Offer of employment will be contingent upon successful completion of NCDOT and Ferry Division’s pre-employment drug, Fit-For-Duty, and cardiopulmonary function/respirator fit tests.
Preference: Marine vessel experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies
Applicants must submit an application that clearly reflects work experience that demonstrates the following:
Working knowledge of the principles and methods of oxygen acetylene brazing and electric arc welding.
Demonstrated skill and proficiency in welding utilizing SMAW (stick welding) process.
Additional Expectations:
Successful applicants will be expected to have the ability to weld in overhead, flat, horizontal, and vertical positions. They will also be required to move heavy objects plus the ability to bend and stoop while confined in small spaces. Successful applicants should also have the ability to follow oral and written communication and directions.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and three years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Necessary Special Requirements · 3G welding certification. · Ability to pass a fitness for duty test post offer.
