  The opportunity

  Heart & Stroke is a leader in driving health systems change across the continuum of care by leveraging evidence-based practices, current and accurate scientific and clinical knowledge, and building strong relationships with key stakeholders. This work has significant impacts on health system planning, professional practice, patient care and outcomes.

  The Manager will play an active role in improving care, outcomes and quality of life for people in Canada living with a heart condition or caring for someone with a heart condition across all provinces and territories. 

  Applicants must be currently residing in Canada and legally entitled to work in Canada.

  The Manager, Heart will be a subject matter expert in heart conditions, engage with Heart & Stroke staff across Canada, and with key internal and external partners and stakeholders in the initiation, planning, and execution of strategic action plans and initiatives to affect changes and measure resulting improvements.  They will work to close the gap between research evidence, guidelines, systems planning, advocacy, evaluation, and clinical practice using knowledge translation best practices. 

   

  How you will make an impact every day

  Subject matter expert on heart conditions

  Provide subject matter expertise on heart conditions to internal teams (national and provincial) to ensure accuracy, alignment and consistency with current evidence-based guidelines, using health system and clinical knowledge about heart conditions.

  Work closely and collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to identify needs, gaps and existing resources to ensure resources developed reflect existing needs, current knowledge and accuracy to ensure H&S credibility.

  Respond to inquiries from the public, people with lived experience and volunteers regarding heart conditions as appropriate, working with internal colleagues.

  Project management and knowledge translation support

  Participates in the planning, implementation and evaluation of systems change and strategic initiatives, working with internal teams as appropriate.

  Using a range of approaches and data collection methods, analyze, validate and interpret qualitative and quantitative data, related to specific strategic initiatives.

  Implement opportunities to develop education for health professionals and people with lived experience, working closely with the Engagement Team and aligning to the PWLE strategy, and to influence practice, based on healthcare audience needs and preferences, implementation science, literature review, and environmental scans.

  Develop and design knowledge tools, reports and products in support of delivery and execution on specific priority initiatives, supporting the application and uptake of new evidence and best practices across multiple audiences (e.g., professionals, people with lived experience, media, decision makers). Focus is on digital tools and products, aiming to integrate across web and mobile platforms.

  Develop and submit abstracts to conferences when relevant and appropriate to profile H&S activities; creates posters and presentations for display at conferences.

  Participate in the development and delivery of written and oral communications, including newsletters, slide decks, briefing notes, and website updates to inform and communicate strategically with stakeholders.

  Relationship Management and Stewardship

  Liaise with the external academic and research community and key leaders working in cardiovascular clinical care, to build relationships and further H&S mandate and activities.

  Identify and steward relationships with key external national organizations related to heart conditions (such as Heart Failure groups, Congenital Heart groups and others) to identify and advance shared priorities.

  Represent H&S by participating in external committees, coalitions and advisory groups as appropriate.

  Serve as a spokesperson for media and public, professional, and scientific presentations on behalf of the Foundation.

  Team Leadership and Talent Management

  Develop and mentor team members, ensuring high standards, competence and ensuring staff are well supported in fulfilling their accountabilities, developing their skills and achieving their career potential.   

  Who we need

  Experience

  Minimum five years’ work experience in the field of cardiovascular health care.

  Previous work experience in health charity sector an asset.

  Education

  A minimum of a university undergraduate degree in a health-related field, preferably nursing or rehabilitation sciences.

  Master’s degree preferred, ideally within health sciences.

  Advanced clinical knowledge of heart conditions.  

  Skills

  Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in cardiovascular clinical care.

  Strong project management skills with close attention to detail and ability to successfully manage multiple projects simultaneously, including tracking progress against milestones and the ability to problem solve and mitigate unexpected issues that arise to meet timelines.

  Proven track record in external stakeholder management and communications.

  Demonstrated success coordinating and working with clinicians across disciplines, medical trainees, stakeholders from different time zones across Canada.

  Self-motivated, able to take initiative, and be accountable for results through focused attention on achieving goals while positively supporting the needs and goals of others.

  Effective relationship building, organizational and strategic communication skills, including the ability to interface appropriately with cross-functional teams as well as all levels of management.

  Excellent verbal communication skills used in working with senior volunteers, other stakeholders internal and external coordinators, and members of the mission team, including senior leaders. 

  Excellent written communication skills to prepare and/or coordinate communications with advisory and writing groups or similar. 

  The use of tact and diplomacy are essential when communicating and explaining timelines and delivery dates for time sensitive materials and information.

  Strong computer skills and ability to use technological tools to organize and advance the work of the team (i.e., MS Office Suite, SharePoint, MS Teams, GoTo Webinar, survey tools and other workflow tools).
