About Manager, Financial Underwriting

  The Manager, Financial Underwriting leads a regional team supporting new and existing business underwriting for Humana's Group Ancillary products. Leads a team of underwriting professionals to support new business group strategies and group retention. Manages relationships with regional Sales team(s) and internal support teams. Computes rates for both renewing and prospective moderate to complex group accounts. The Manager, Financial Underwriting works within specific guidelines and procedures; applies advanced technical knowledge to solve moderately complex problems; receives assignments in the form of objectives and determines approach, resources, schedules and goals.

  The Manager, Financial Underwriting leads a team of underwriting professionals focused on Humana's Group Ancillary products (Dental, Vision, Life, Disability) aligned to a regional market footprint. The manager establishes strategies in collaboration with the market Sales leaders to increase new business sales and renewal business persistency. The manager collaborates with team members to deliver a highly consultative experience to our sales partners. The individual may prepare a variety of financial reports for large accounts, provide rationale and support to other areas within the organization, and to clients regarding rate computations and financial performance. Collaborates with team members to provide expense estimates and accurate analysis of financial exhibits. Decisions are typically related to financial performance of new and existing group accounts, managing resources and underwriting processes, approach, and tactical operations for projects and initiatives involving own departmental area. Requires cross departmental collaboration, and conducts briefings and area meetings; maintains frequent contact with other managers across the department. Experience with jumbo and public sector market segments is desirable.

  WORK STYLE: Position can be in office, hybrid, or work at home/remote and some travel will be required (for trainings, meetings, and/or conferences), likely no more than 10%, depending on business needs and location.

  WORK HOURS: Monday-Friday, regular business hours that align with EST, as this role covers the Southeast region.

  Required Qualifications

  Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience6 or more years of underwriting or financial analysis/risk analysis experienceComprehensive understanding of risk pool management2 or more years of management, supervisor, team lead or related leadership experienceExcellent written and oral communication skillsAbility to analyze data and make informed decisionsProven track record in developing working relationships and influencing throughout the matrix environmentProven track record of coaching, mentoring and motivating team members in support of business goalsAbility to work under tight deadlines, multi-task and deliver quality work under pressureAbility to organize and manage multiple priorities and/or projects using appropriate methodologies and toolsProficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and familiarity with SharePoint and BI.Must be passionate about contributing to an organization focused on continuously improving consumer experiences

  Preferred Qualifications

  Experience underwriting rates for complex accountsExperience analyzing a wide variety of health or claims related dataExperience leading others involved in underwriting proceduresDental and Vision Underwriting experienceGroup Life and Disability Product Underwriting experienceDemonstrated success in the planning and helping with implementation of across-the-board process improvement initiatives to include both tactical and strategic-level projects

  • WAH requirements: Must have the ability to provide a high speed DSL or cable modem for a home office. Associates or contractors who live and work from home in the state of California will be provided payment for their internet expense.

  • Satellite and Wireless Internet service is NOT allowed for this role.

  Interview Format

  Pay Range

  The compensation range below reflects a good faith estimate of starting base pay for full time (40 hours per week) employment at the time of posting. The pay range may be higher or lower based on geographic location and individual pay decisions will vary based on demonstrated job related skills, knowledge, experience, education, certifications, etc.

  $102,200 - $140,700 per year

  This job is eligible for a bonus incentive plan. This incentive opportunity is based upon company and/or individual performance.
