  Summary:

  The Clinical Research Nurse Manager is a professional registered nurse who is responsible for the oversight of all clinical and preclinical research activities, including clinical care for patients enrolled in trials at Rush University. The Clinical Research Nurse Manager is responsible for the management of a team of research nurses and research staff. The Clinical Research Nurse Manager supervises compliance and educational activities within the Institution as it relates to clinical trials and preclinical studies. The Clinical Research Nurse Manager creates and maintains collaborative relationships between research nursing, ambulatory nursing, and other nursing groups at Rush. The Clinical Research Nurse Manager oversees continuous quality improvement activities, streamlines workflows for seamless care of research participants, and maintains open relationships with all clinics and service areas. In addition, the Clinical Research Nurse Manager assists in risk assessments, the preparation of institutional policies and procedures, and oversees all research billing with applicable laws and regulations. The Clinical Research Nurse Manager monitors audit report findings to ensure that the institution does not violate state or federal laws or engages in business relationships that result in harm. Exemplifies the Rush mission, vision and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures.

  Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the daily management and direct supervision of a team of research nurses and/or research coordinators or research support staff.

  • Assists leadership in the implementation of program development initiatives, including implementation of complex and high-risk protocols.

  • Completes staff performance evaluations, grants vacation requests, oversees time and attendance, and addresses all issues arising from such tasks.

  • Participates in recruitment efforts, interviewing, and hiring of nursing personnel and research coordination staff.

  • Defines, implements, and supervises the collection of metrics for compliance, accrual data, and workload amounts of the staff. Compiles and aggregates this data to provide structured and regular reports of performance and compliance metrics to leadership, faculty, and staff.

  • Develops and implements an orientation-training plan and ongoing education plans for research staff, nursing, and PIs. On boards, educates, and trains new staff as appropriate. Participates in the continuous education of existing staff, including participation in the over-testing process, as needed.

  • Works collaboratively with the Quality Assurance Committee and Research Compliance, as needed.

  • Oversees tracking, reporting, and communication of corrective action plan implementation and continuous quality improvement activities

  • Assists in scheduling, prepares for, and attends both internal and external audits.

  • Plays a central role in collaborative interactions with the institutional IRB, Research Affairs, Research Compliance, and various ambulatory nursing committees.

  Required Job Qualifications:

  • Current State of Illinois Registered Nurse licensure.

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree.

  • A minimum of four years of clinical research experience.

  • A minimum of 5 years of clinical nursing experience.

  • Research certification is required, including CCRP (Certified Clinical Research Professional) or CCRC (Certified Clinical Research Coordinator), or OCN certification; with research certification obtained within 6 months of hire.

  • Utilizes professional judgment and critical decision-making skills required to plan for and provide care to research subjects and/or patients.

  • Ability to communicate complex regulatory concepts in everyday language.

  • Ability to develop rapport with a diverse set of individuals and departments.

  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills with a solution-orientation.

  • Ability to work both independently and in team settings.

  • Ability to work flexible hours and travel occasionally to accommodate study and patient schedules.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of clinical research principles, regulatory requirements, and ethical guidelines required.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Highly ethical, professional individual.

  Preferred Job Qualifications:

  • Previous management and supervisory experience.

  • Masters of Science in Nursing Degree.

  • Familiarity with preclinical research is strongly preferred, including GLP certification
