Summary This position is part of the National Archives and Records Administration, within the National Personnel Records Center, Military Operations Branch. As a Mail Clerk you will be sorting, delivering, receiving all incoming and outgoing mail, and returning records from various carriers including USPS, FedEx, UPS, and contracted carriers. Responsibilities As a MAIL CLERK, you will: Sort and deliver a large amount of mail from private citizens, government organizations and businesses. Pick up and screen outgoing mail for appropriate class, size, weight, packaging, and addresses. Perform such related duties as facing, sacking, bundling, and wrapping of outgoing materials; processing registered, certified, and insured materials (both incoming and outgoing); and maintaining an up-to-date directory by name, room and telephone number, organization, and forwarding address for use in work assignment. Operate the automated mail metering system without supervision and is able to troubleshoot minor problems. Prepare daily reports to determine pre-sort mail production for the day. Occasional lifting of heavier (over 50 pounds) materials required. Regularly stands for 4 - 6 hours per duty day while operating the mail metering system. You must have one year of general experience which includes: Progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled.
