We are
hiring for a machinist in the Reading PA area. This is a full-time direct hire position.
Skills and Experience:
Familiarity with a range of department machines, including CNC machines, CNC lathes, cylindrical grinders, milling machines, engine lathe, tracer lathe, crush foam grinder, drill press, EDM equipment, Bridgeport mill, radial arm drill press, measuring tools, and optical comparatorWorking knowledge of reference calibration standards and electrodesExperience in CNC programming and the ability to make changes to CNC programsProficiency in shop mathematics, machinability of materials, and layout techniquesUnderstanding of testing procedures and guidelinesAbility to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environmentPositive attitude and effective communication for seamless collaborationAdaptability to fast-paced and dynamic work environmentsContinuous improvement mindset with the ability to recommend process enhancementsAbility to work on a variety of machines and tools, contributing to a team approach to problem-solvingResponsibilities:
Independently operate department equipment, demonstrating a strong understanding of testing procedures and guidelines (excluding NDT & RCBs)Perform machining of test specimens and parts using CNC and other lathesSet up and operate cylindrical grinders to produce low-stress ground test specimensMachine blank samples into reference standards based on provided blueprints or drawings, documenting all relevant informationManufacture, maintain, or machine jigs, fixtures, or parts required for the Met Lab or other departmental needsCalibrate movements on milling machines, electric discharge machines, surface roughness indicators, and micrometer setsRead lab travelers and determine furnace utilizationReport any out-of-calibration conditions (as found) to supervisionUndertake additional duties and special projects as assigned
Requirements
High School Diploma or equivalentMinimum of 1 year of relevant experienceProficient in MS Office, including Outlook and WordExcellent written and verbal communication skillsStrong problem-solving skills with the ability to organize and prioritize tasksCapacity to make sound decisions independentlyAbility to operate department equipment with minimal supervision
