Summary About the Position: This is a permanent position with the U.S. Army Combined Arms Center and Fort Leavenworth, Leader Development and Education, Dean of Academics, Combined Arms Research Library, Systems Services Division, Fort Leavenworth, KS. Responsibilities As a Librarian (Electronic Services), you will perform the following duties which is not an all-inclusive list: Responsible for ensuring patron-access to electronic resources via the Combined Arms Research Library (CARL) public access computers. As a member of the technology team design and study library automation needs. Determine feasibility and usefulness of new technology and services, (e.g. electronic information products and services, software and equipment). Provides support to other members of the CARL Online team to ensure site is kept up-to-date. Coordinates with vendors and Army University Library System (AULS) staff to streamline the process for acquiring/providing access to electronic materials, to analyze/resolve problems, and to develop and use statistical and other management reports. Update the library's ADP equipment database. Assists with reference services when needed (e.g. training patrons to use electronic resources, answering reference queries). Maintains the e-resource database management spreadsheet. Develop and implement programs to meet the library's goal of delivering information to the customer's desktop. Individual Occupational Requirements: The Librarian occupation has specific educational requirements which apply to all positions; Completion of one (1) full academic year of graduate study in library science in an accredited college or university, in addition to completion of all work required for a bachelors degree; (NOTE: You will need to upload a copy of your transcripts) OR A total of at least five (5) years of a combination of college-level education, training, and experience. To qualify on this basis, the applicant must establish conclusively that the education, training, and experience provided a knowledge and understanding of the theories, principles, and techniques of professional librarianship; a knowledge of literature resources; and the knowledge and abilities essential for providing effective library and information services. Specialized experience is defined as:Work which includes assisting with providing instruction and training to faculty, students and clientele on the use of library resources; troubleshooting IT issues, cataloging, and updating electronic library database systems; adapt various software and hardware computer systems to enhance electronic library databases; operating automated applications and web browsers; organize and provide access to digitized reference material or collection.
