Job Summary
Under limited supervision, this role is responsible for the ERS TumorRegistry System. Compiles and, maintains statistical diagnostic andtreatment information on all cancer patients. Performs all the functions ofDenver Health's Cancer Registry, including case finding, case coding andabstracting, follow-up, data entry, State and all other required datareporting, and Cancer Conference (Tumor Boards). Disseminatesinformation in accordance with professional ethics and ensures confidentialinformation integrity. Generates and submits state reports once a month togreater Department of Medicine Leadership. Attends and prepares agenda forTumor Conference once per week and performs all requested follow up tasks.Attend Cancer Committee once per month. Oversees the daily operation of theCancer Registry and ensures compliance with all requirements to achieve andmaintain an accredited cancer program as set forth by the American College ofSurgeons Commission on Cancer. Essential Functions:Reviews provisional pathology log and document positive cases. (5%)Reviews death certificates and diagnostic indices. (5%)Maintains case file including information retrieved through case findingreviews. (5%)Abstracts and codes required Information in the ERS system. Standard is 10 perweek. (5%)Monitors compliance for abstract completion with other cancer registry teammembers, permanent or contract. (5%)Performs monthly audits on completed work to ensure quality of work andabstract submissions. (5%)Empowered to educate in the setting if incomplete or incorrect workperformance from other cancer registry team members. (5%)Responsible for on-boarding and training of other cancer registry teammembers. (5%)Participate in interviews and provide recommendations on hiring candidates.(5%)Accesses imaging, SSI death index, Vital Records, sending out monthlypatient and physician letters; standard is 4 per hour; follow up must bedone the first week of each month. (5%)Submits monthly transfer of total cases based on date of first contact toState Registry to maintain compliance with State timeliness standard andcurrent completeness standard of analytic cases. (5%)Responsible for maintaining user account in CStar program (5%)Develops and maintains relationship with the State Cancer Registry andimplements updated program requirements determined by local and nationalgoverning bodies. (5%)Submits weekly production log each Monday containing production stats for theprevious week. (5%)Gathers positive cases. (5%)Retrieves information from pathology provisional list and cytology slips everyMonday before the conference. (5%)Serves as primary contact and liaison between the oncology physicians andcancer registry program (5%)Documents patient social information (age, site, location,diagnosis), add any additional comments, name of presenter and caseinformationPrepares agenda, make copies and distribute appropriately (5%)Monthly clears all errors from abstracts completed in ERS. Education:High School Diploma or GED required.
Work Experience:Five years of experience in Cancer Registry field or similar work required.1-3 years One year of medical billing/coding experience preferred.
Licenses:Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR) certification required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Maintain current CE hours to maintain CTR. Possess good computer keyboardingskills.
