  The Planning and Development Department is actively seeking one (1) Landscape Plans Examiner.

  This is administrative work in examining landscape plans for landscape work compliance with applicable building codes and ordinances. Work requires a knowledge of landscape drafting techniques, methods, and procedures used to analyze proposed landscape designs and plans involving the use of specialized skills that are gained through specialized training and experience. Contacts with others require skills in understanding, assessing and influencing people's behavior when recommending changes to non-conforming construction designs, including skills of persuasiveness, assertiveness, and sensitivity to others point of view that are required to influence behavior, change an opinion, or turn a situation around.. The work is standardized in that tasks are covered by substantially diversified procedures and specialized standards and specialized standards, and because of changing priorities, of different situations requiring use of judgment. Work is performed in an office environment. Operates standard office equipment, standard measuring devices and a motor vehicle. The physical demands are minimal. The work is performed under limited supervision where assignments are subject to established practices and procedures and reviewed for quality and adherence to established methods, standards and policies.

  Examples of Work

  Reviews and analyzes residential, commercial and industrial landscape drawings, plans and other specifications for compliance with landscape ordinances.

  Calculates and verifies engineering designs and permit fees.

  Informs applicants of landscape and site discrepancies and other non-conforming plans and advises them of corrections.

  Answers inquires to assist and provide guidance on landscape ordinance compliance.

  Operates a motor vehicle.

  Demonstrates proficiency in the City of Jacksonville Core Competencies.

  Performs related work as required.

  Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  Knowledge of landscape ordinances and standard specifications, civil and landscape drafting techniques, and computation methods, procedures and terminology.

  Knowledge of landscape and site designs, plans, and blueprints and permits.

  Knowledge of applicable landscape and zoning code requirements.

  Ability to perform mathematical calculations.

  Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, diagrams and plans.

  Ability to communicate effectively.

  Ability to operate a motor vehicle.

  Open Requirements/Supplemental Information

  A five-year combination of education, training or experience at the technical or professional level in construction and inspection, which must include at least two years of landscape experience.LICENSE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION:

  FL Class E Driver's License is required prior to appointment and must be maintained.

  Must meet standards required to obtain a City of Jacksonville driver's certification.
