About Laboratory Technician

  The Johns Hopkins University is seeking to hire a Laboratory Technician who will work under the general supervision of a Faculty Investigator. The Laboratory Technician will be responsible for performing routine cell culture and tests in a research laboratory and contributing to general maintenance of the laboratory, equipment, and supplies. Will perform basic lab functions including general lab upkeep and lab ordering. We are seeking a person who will aid in research experiments including maintaining cell cultures, performing tests, analyzing data, and making informal presentations to others about their work.

  Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  Operate standard laboratory equipment, use standard procedures for specific laboratory tests and preparation techniques.

  Assist postdoc studies.

  Responsible for laboratory maintenance, preparing solutions and media, and ordering supplies.

  Identify and report problems in completion of routine lab processes.

  Careful record keeping of sample information and results to guarantee quality of experimentation.

  Carries out routine equipment maintenance and setup.

  Ensures laboratory efficiency by following set protocols for lab cleanliness, organization, and safety regulations.

  Minimum Qualifications

  High School Diploma or graduation equivalent with some science coursework.

  Experience in basic laboratory procedures required.

  Preferred Qualifications

  Bachelor's Degree.

  Certificate from Technical Institute or internship experience.

  Role/Level/Range: ACRO40/E/02/CB

  Starting Salary Range: Min $15.25 - Max $23.00 HRLY ($23.00 HRLY targeted; Commensurate with experience)

  Employee group: Part-time

  Schedule: M-F, 25 hrs/wk (between 9am-5pm)

  Exempt Status: Non-Exempt

  JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

  The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
