Within Janssen Research & Development, the Biotherapeutics Development & Supply (BTDS) organization is responsible for the development, clinical supply, marketed product support, and life cycle management of Biotherapeutics. Within BTDS, the Analytical Development (AD) group supports method development and validation, as well as product development, release, and stability analytics via automated workflows.
The Laboratory Automation & Robotics team is expanding and recruiting for a Lab Automation Engineer to collaborate in migrating analytical assays from manual processes to fully automated end to end workflows. You will leverage process, coding, and systems integration expertise to collaborate with Assay Automation, Integrated Automation, and Laboratory Robotics colleagues in delivering hands-free orchestrated end-to-end analytical workflows for cell and gene therapies.
Your Primary Responsibilities:
Drive the development and implementation of the analytical laboratory orchestration software layer, including storage and transport systems
Drive the integration of LIMS, sample batching software, and materials inventory systems with laboratory orchestration and scheduler software
Collaborate with Integration colleagues in the design, development, and implementation of hands free end-to-end laboratory automation workcell solutions (Driven by Biosero Orchestrator/Green Button Go®)
Collaborate with Data Science and IT to integrate data flow and review by exception
Lead automated process/methods qualification, training, and transfer activities
Collaborate with the Assay Automation, Integration, and Methods Development to influence and align on systems components and strategies
Optimize automated systems, expand capabilities, and support technical investigations
Collaborate with automation team members to support or maintain automated systems
Knowledge transfer and cross-training
Author protocols, work instructions, SOPs, or presentations
Qualifications
Required:
Ph.D./M.S./B.S. in Biology, Biological Sciences, Biochemistry, Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent is required
Ph.D. with 2 years, M.S. with 6 or more years, or B.S. with 8 or more years of robotics or integrated automation experience is required
Experience with various programming languages, such as C#, Python, C , etc is required
Experience driving development and implementation of automated laboratory workflow and high-throughput methods within the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry; this includes systems configuration, data integration, or method/process programming is required
Experience with device and data systems integration is required
Ability to identify/understand sophisticated customer needs, influence peers, and help craft automated solutions for laboratory workflows is required
Experience leading evaluation and implementation of new and novel technologies is required
Experience with biological or biochemical assays; migration of bench techniques to automated systems is required
Strong organizational and interpersonal skills (both written and oral), with the ability to closely collaborate with scientists, vendors, and external teams is required
Experience working with multidisciplinary teams is required
Preferred:
Experience with analytical method development is preferred
Experience with automated liquid handlers and/or integrated systems driven by Biosero Green Button Go software is preferred
Experience with collaborative or industrial robotics is preferred
