Journeyman Machinist
Job Description
Job Summary:
The journeyman machinist will operate computer numerically controlled (CNC) machine tools to cut and produce precision parts for machines, instruments, and tools. The Journeyman Machinist repairs and produces parts using both manual and automated equipment with precise measurements. The journeyman machinists' goal is to ensure effective production operations and optimize procedures.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Review samples, drawings or instructions to understand specifications of outputTake measurements and mark material for cutting or shapingPlan the sequence of necessary actions for the completion of a jobSelect appropriate machines and position or load material for a jobMonitor machine while working to adjust the feed, maintain temperature and identify issuesDetermine and program size of batches and speed of machineMonitor output to ensure consistency with specifications and discard defectsPerform routine machine maintenance and repair minor damagesThis job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job. Minimum Qualifications:
DOL Journeyman card required. Vocational school or apprenticeship preferredExcellent manual dexterity, accuracy and attention to detailGreat verbal and written communication skillsAbility to use precision tools (e.g. calipers) to take accurate measurementsAbility to read blueprints, schematics and manualsKnowledge of metal properties and other materialOutstanding mathematical skills and analytical abilitiesPhysical stamina and strength to lift heavy itemsWork Environment:
Employee may be regularly exposed to moving equipment, mechanical parts in motion, risk of shock and other hazards associated with a manufacturing environment such as overhead cranes, welding, machining, painting etc.
Employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use hands, reach, talk, hear or smell. Climb or balance, stoop, kneel, reach, stretch, crouch. Lift or move up to 50 pounds. Vision requires close focus, distance vision, peripheral vision, color vision, depth perception and focus adjustment.
