Preference in certification may be given to successful candidates who are residents of the municipality for one month prior to the date of certification.DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: The Instructional Technology Specialist is responsible for advising administration, faculty, teaching assistants and other staff on the use of instructional technology to support their pedagogical goals and student success. The incumbent will conduct training over the phone, through email exchanges, and through in-person meetings. The work is performed under direct supervision of the Director of Technology with general supervision by other school administrators. Does related work as required.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Either:(a)Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university or one accredited by the New York State Board of Regents to grant degrees with an Associate’s degree or higher in Communications, Information Technology, Education, or a closely related field, and one (1) year of experience using various instructional technology applications; OR(b)Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and three (3) years of experience, as defined in (a);(c)An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (a) and (b). For other questions, you will be given paragraphs with their sentences out of order. You must then choose, from four suggestions, the best order for the sentences. Principles of providing user support:These questions test for knowledge and skill in working in a user support situation. They cover such subjects as how to communicate effectively with users requesting help; how to deal with different types of situations; troubleshooting techniques; and how to gather, organize and make available technical information needed to provide support. Training users of computers:These questions test for knowledge of techniques for using computers and approaches to training others to use them. They cover such subjects as use of computer hardware, software and applications; preparing and evaluating instruction materials; determining the level of trainees' knowledge and the use of computers to provide instruction and feedback. The questions on training depend upon good judgment and practical experience rather than knowledge of abstract principles.
