The Law School has an outstanding opportunity for an Information Desk Supervisor (Library Specialist I - Supervisor (NE S SEIU 925 Supv)).
POSITION PURPOSE
Under the general direction of the Head of Collections, Resources, and Information Management department, the Library Specialist I - Supervisor is responsible for performing and overseeing daily tasks and operations of the Information Desk and performing collection maintenance services. Develops and collaborates on creating accurate departmental procedures and contributes to efficiencies by identifying processes for automation and simplification. Supervises student employees and oversees their shifts within the Collections, Resources, and Information Management department.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Supervisory 30%
With delegated authority, interview and recommend selection of applicants, conduct training, assign and schedule work, act upon leave requests, provide regular feedback regarding work performance, and recommend disciplinary action for all library student employees.
Supervise student employees; evaluate and monitor work process; recommend changes for improvement of function; develop, implement, and monitor training; develop and disseminate instructions and information; organize, conduct, and facilitate student employee meetings.
Maintain and contribute to statistics requested by the library for functions performed by this position, including statistics regarding the work of student employees.
Maintain Springshare’s LibStaffer application for scheduling student employees.
Work with law library administration and follow University of Washington guidance to ensure compliance with UW and law library policies.
Report and deescalate library security incidents.
Participate in resolving complex problems relating to library operations.
Participate in the work of the unit by being prepared for meetings, researching and contributing ideas for resolving issues faced by the department, and by writing and updating documentation. Information Desk Services 30%
Oversee daily Information Desk operations.
Ensure accuracy of internal and external policies and procedures.
Maintain hour and access policies as changes occur, documenting those changes on relevant library communication platforms.
Administer Springshare’s LibCal Seats application for library space reservations.
Resolve complex circulation problems.
Explain basics of library operations, policies, and circulation of materials to users and student employees.
Make recommendations to Head of CRIM regarding the replacement of lost or damaged items, work with relevant partners to document and process these matters, and communicate about the process with the user.
Process fine and fee requests, coordinate claim return materials, and assess unit appeals.
Serve as law library liaison with UW Libraries’ regarding joint circulation operations.
Communicate law library facilities, services, and policy announcements to law students using appropriate channels.
Work with UW Libraries and other law school departments to support the needs of the unit and library users as appropriate. Collection Maintenance 35%
Assist in the management and preservation of the library collections by performing
collection maintenance tasks and special projects.
Participate in stacks maintenance.
Update item and holdings records in the libraries Integrated Library System (ILS).
Oversee law library inventory control work including missing and lost items, in transit items, item record updating, collection processing, and appropriate item withdrawal. Other Duties 5%
Perform other duties as assigned, at the Library Technician III level MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school graduation or equivalentAND
four years of applicable library technical experience including one year of experience in the area of specialization and one year of lead/supervisory experienceOR
equivalent education/experience. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Word, Excel and Adobe Acrobat.
Familiarity with Ex Libris's Alma and Primo systems.
