This job addendum maybe assigned to a Clinical Professional with knowledge and training whowill be assigned the duties of Infection Preventionist in addition tothe job description to which they are primarily assigned.
Physical Requirements:
May be expected to lift up to 50 pounds or up to 150 pounds withassistance. May be expected to push or pull 150-300 pounds withassistance. Work is of medium demand; walking or standing most of thetime while on duty. Visual and auditory acuity and manual dexterityessential to performing designated duties required. Optimal auditoryacuity required. Manual dexterity involving the handling of equipmentand instruments or needles is essential to performing assigned duties.Physical conditions are clean, neat and well-lit. May be subjected tounpleasant sights and odors, stressful situations and hazardous orinfectious agents where judgement as to precautions needed to be takenis essential. Climate control and ambient temperature variances may beexperienced and required by patient care and needs of the surgical team.Exposure to limited amounts of radiation, hazardous chemicals orsubstances and infectious disease processes are a possibility. Hours ofduty may be irregular or unexpectedly extended due to the requirementsof the daily surgical schedule.

Has experience or can complete an initial training in infectionprevention.
Completes a minimum of 4 CEUs through the year related to InfectionControl. Encouraged to be certified by APIC.
Seeks out membership in APIC.
Conducts surveillance activities including data collection, monitoring,investigating of infection cluster/outbreaks and reporting activities.
Notifies local and state Departments of Health of any identifiedreportable patient conditions and facility acquired infections.
Provides staff support for compliance with the Exposure control Plan.
Provides staff support for compliance with Standard and TransmissionBased Precautions.
Reviews products designated for environmental cleaning, disinfectants,hand scrubs, moisturizers, and products used for patient skin preps.
Provides staff infection and exposure control in-service based onassessed needs.
Membership in the Quality Improvement/Safety/Infection PreventionCommittee with responsibilities for monitoring and reporting activitiesrelated to Infection control surveillance.
Develops and reviews the IC policies and guidelines for scope,objectives, performance and effectiveness at least annually and providesrecommendations to the appropriate Committee for revision/approval.
Assures that infection prevention policies are reviewed with allemployees of the facility and all persons under contract who work at thefacility and have exposure to patients at the center within the first 10days of employment and every 12 months thereafter, or more often ifrequired or changes are made.
