  The Position

  Highway Maintenance Workers are certified by the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) to operate a variety of complex or specialized highway maintenance and construction equipment in order to restore and maintain the integrity of roadway surfaces; maintain roadside slopes, shoulders, culverts and ditches to restore drainage and prevent erosion; and repair or replace related roadway appurtenances such as guardrails, markers, guide posts and fences.

  PER EXECUTIVE ORDER 2023-11, ALL MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS HAVE BEEN WAIVED FOR THIS POSITION UNTIL JUNE 30th, 2024. Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.

  Highway Maintenance Worker Ill's for Crew 227 are responsible for maintenance, repair, construction, sweeping and cleaning of state highways, curbs, gutters, storm drains, right-of- way and similar facilities. The work involves considerable physical exertion, including heavy lifting up to 50 lbs., the ability to sit, stand, kneel, and walk on flat surfaces and hilly terrain with vegetation. Most work is performed outdoors and involves exposure to the hazards associated with working around traffic and heavy equipment.   In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

  Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)

  One year of experience performing basic highway maintenance work; OR one year of experience as a Highway Maintenance Worker I in Nevada State service.Special Requirements

  This position requires an applicant be at least 18 years of age upon application. If selected, proof of being at least 18 years of age will be required. This position may require working alternate shifts and outside of traditional business hours. The hours for this position are subject to change depending on the needs of the appointing authority and may be five 8-hour shifts or four 10-hour shifts. Tell us how you heard about us! Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances. In addition, federal law requires random testing for controlled substances during employment. A valid driver's license is required at the time of application and as a condition of continuing employment.Additional Position Criteria

  A valid Class A or B commercial driver's license is required within six months of employment.The Examination
