  Summary About the Position: This position is located at Fort Novosel, Alabama, home of the United States Army Aviation Center of Excellence. Fort Novosel is located in the "Wiregrass" area in Southeast Alabama, surrounded by Enterprise, Ozark and Daleville. Responsibilities Instruct and evaluate in Day/Night/Night Vision Device (NVD) modes under visual flight rules (VFR) and/or instrument meteorological conditions (IMC). Attend daily IP briefing when performing IP duties and conduct daily student briefs when directed by the commander or supervisor. Instruct and evaluate academic topics in accordance with TC 3-04.11 or current, equivalent publication(s), the aircrew catalogue of academic topics (ACAT), current Army and Aviation doctrine, and other special topics selected by the command. Perform administrative tasks such as maintaining files and records. Schedule or manage the scheduling of aircraft for students or other requirements. Monitor no-notice evaluations to assigned aviators. Develop, review, and propose revisions to assigned Programs of Instruction (POIs), Course Management Plans (CMPs), Standard Operation Procedures (SOPs), and APGs as needed by the Aircrew Training Program (ATP) commander. Serve as a Mission Briefing Officer (MBO) and/or Air Mission Commander (AMC) as required. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes (1) implementing methods of instruction for student pilot in the LUH-72 Helicopter; (2) evaluating student pilots in all levels of development in areas such as flight maneuvers, aircraft systems and limitations, instruments flight procedures, and terrain flight; (3) operating the LUH-72 Helicopter while instructing and evaluating the student; (4) conducting classroom instruction on the systems and/or procedures of the LUH-72 Helicopter; and (5) recommending changes in lesson plans, program of instruction, training methods and techniques within the organization. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12). Certifications: This position requires you possess the appropriate Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Pilot Certificates, FAA Flight Instructor Certificate and/or appropriate military rating. Minimum Flight Hours Requirement: Total Flight Hours- 1500 Pilot in Command - 250 Night Flying - 75 Flying Time in the Last 12 Months - 100 Instructor Hours - 500 Instrument Hours - 75 Actual Weather- 10 FLIGHT HOURS MUST BE DOCUMENTED ON THE RESUME IN THE ABOVE FORMAT. (Must attach a copy of official flight records such as DA-759, DA-759-1, or equivalent) In-service placement for current Federal Employees flight hour requirements may be subject to waiver based on OPM Qualification Standards which may be accessed at: http://www.opm.gov/qualifications/Standards/IORs/gs2100/2181.htm You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Education and Training Teaching Others Technical Credibility Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-12). Education Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. One year trial/probationary period may be required. Direct deposit of pay is required. Selection is subject to restrictions resulting from Department of Defense referral system for displaced employees.
