This position leads the regulatory function in the US, ensuring freedom to operate for the Crop Protection business units within the Agricultural Solutions business. The role requires a strategic, agile and highly collaborative senior manager with a deep technical understanding of regulatory affairs/science and demonstrated success interfacing with Federal and State regulatory agency senior leadership. As a key member of the APD North American Crop Protection leadership team and industry influencer, you will leverage your connections with management in the commercial, supply chain and development functions and apply your understanding of competitive threats, changing regulatory dynamics, and new technologies to set the regulatory direction that facilitates successful business outcomes.

Synthesizing complex scientific and regulatory information in a continually changing regulatory environment into understandable, clear and effective regulatory strategies at the portfolio level. Ensurig maintenance and defense of existing products, and ensure new products have robust submission dossiers. Providing active support and alignment on policies and procedures both within APN and globally.
Setting expectations and reinforce a culture that emphasizes empowerment and a drive to meet customer needs while meeting regulatory requirements. Ensuring appropriate roles and staffing levels to meet business needs, with clear responsibilities. Meeting budget requirements.
Serving as key interface between US Regulatory and key internal BASF stakeholders. Proactively facilitating collaboration and coordination to assure strategic alignment and build relationships with stakeholder groups including EPA, USDA, and trade associations, including leadership.
Ensuring compliance with all applicable regulatory standards and record-keeping requirements. Working with other key stakeholders (legal, supply chain, technical service, etc.), manage potential issues.
If you have...
Ph.D. with 5+ years, MS with 10+ years, or BS with 15+ years of agricultural chemical industry experience. Previous agricultural chemical regulatory experience required.
Expert understanding of US agricultural chemical laws and regulations, including FIFRA, TSCA, and state requirements, with a proven track record of successful registration of pesticide products.
Proven ability to build and lead a high-performance team.
Experience working with US EPA Office of Pesticide Programs, USDA and other government agencies, and trade associations.
Ability to synthesize complex scientific and regulatory information into a coherent and effective regulatory strategy that provides clear guidance to the business.
Proven negotiation skills. Ability to build relationships with key stakeholders and negotiate outcomes beneficial to the business, weighing both short and longer-term needs, both internally and externally.
Decision making. Ability to manage through difficult situations to evaluate and provide optimal outcomes, managing relationships to ensure key stakeholder needs are met.
Ability to deliver challenging messages to stakeholders. Willing to seek creative solutions, maintain focus and provide a regulatory perspective.
Strong interpersonal and networking skills. Ability to understand motivations of others and build and maintain key relationships. This includes key leadership at government agencies (US EPA, USDA, state lead agencies, etc.), with the BASF global regulatory team, global supply chain, and the US Crop, Seed Treatment, and PSS businesses. Know how and when to leverage others’ expertise to ensure business outcomes.
