Summary
The Rackham Development and Alumni Relations team seeks a Graduate Student Staff Assistant (GSSA) for the Fall 2024 term. The GSSA will support program design and facilitation for its emerging alumni/volunteer engagement activities related to the Rackham Career Pathways Council, Campaign Activities, and the 150th Anniversary of the first Ph.D. at Michigan. The GSSA will be responsible for supporting program design and implementation of these and other current and new initiatives.
The GSSA will participate with the team to better engage alumni/volunteers, especially those who are Rackham?s volunteer council members. The aim of the position is to ensure flawless development and implementation of new programming and resources for Rackham alumni and volunteers in order to garner support for graduate education at Michigan. This is an ideal opportunity for students interested in careers in university administration or non-profits.
PLEASE NOTE: Late afternoon and early evening work may be required; possible weekend work may be required with advance notice. Schedule varies based on the needs of the program.
Appointment Period: Fall 2024(This position is for one term with renewal contingent upon completion of performance expectations and available funding).

Course Description
The GSSA will support program design and facilitation for its emerging alumni/volunteer engagement activities related to the Rackham Career Pathways Council, Campaign Activities, and the 150th Anniversary of the first Ph.D. at Michigan. The GSSA will be responsible for supporting program design and implementation of these and other current and new initiatives.
Responsibilities*
Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Support and coordination for the Rackham Career Pathways Council (RCPC). The RCPC brings together alumni and friends of the graduate school who are today's leaders to share their knowledge, perspective, and connections in ways that will create the opportunities and experiences Rackham students need to reach their full potential and become tomorrow/s leaders in a global society.
Collaborate with staff working on the RADC meetings
Participate in the development and preparation of materials for council meetings
Recruitment of students and faculty to participate on panels and as guest speakers
Prepare materials for pre and post work for members
Engage with council members during and in between meetings
Support Rackham?s participation in the university?s next capital campaign, set to launch in October 24. This will involve a wide range of activities, including event planning, material development, and prospect research
Conduct research, support program design, and communication planning for the 150th Anniversary of Ph. D.s at Michigan celebration occurring in Fall 2026. The GSSA will be responsible for supporting program design and implementation of these and other current and new initiatives. The position aims to lay the groundwork for the implementation of the celebration, including historical perspectives, alumni, student, and faculty engagement, communications planning, and building support for graduate education at Michigan.
Required Qualifications*
Applicants must be currently registered in a Rackham graduate program. Preference will be given to doctoral students who have reached candidacy. Students who are unsure if they are in a Rackham graduate program should check their graduate program listing in http://www.rackham.umich.edu/programs-of-study .
Interest in higher education or non-profit administration
Familiarity with diversity issues in higher education and specifically the challenges faced by underrepresented populations;
Experience delivering programming in virtual formats, including familiarity with Canvas, Zoom, and other virtual platforms;
Ability to work as part of a team and capacity to exercise independent initiative;
Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to maintain confidentiality in matters of a sensitive and confidential nature;
Ability to handle multiple projects with excellent attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines;
Strong organizational skills; and
Knowledge of personal computer productivity tools, including word processing, spreadsheets, presentation and electronic communication, social media, and calendaring software packages.
Desired Qualifications*
Previous experience with administration and facilitation
Doctoral candidacy level student in the humanities or social sciences
Experience in philanthropy and volunteer management
Reasonable knowledge of University and departmental policies and procedures, University organization, and University protocol and governance.
