  About the Position:

   

  This position is on a National Forest with responsibility to serve as an assistant Forest Engineer to the Forest Engineer/Staff Officer for Engineering.

   

  Civil Engineer -- Transportation Lead (GS-0810-11/12)

  Reviews and provides input into new, proposed, or revised forest and regional policy direction concerning transportation engineeringProvide technical advice on all aspects of road maintenance/reconstruction/construction projectsCoordinates transportation related activities and plans for engineering between the unit and the Regional OfficeParticipates with Staff Officers and District Rangers as a team member representing engineering to arrive at recommendations for the engineering organization, engineering programs, and objectivesProvide professional engineering input into the interdisciplinary planning process for natural resource development activities involving engineering projectsPrepares original designs and preliminary and final layouts. Such projects may include road design, small bridges, retaining walls, major drainage structures, erosion control features, buildings, towers, equipment shops and yards, small dams and reservoirs, recreation sites, or other comparable structures.Develops and modifies civil engineering plans and specifications for new construction or to improve utility, quality, appropriateness, and appearance of construction.Ensures contract compliance on assigned projects.Prepares annual programs of works and recommends allocations of funds that reflect workload and complexitiesPerforms supervisory duties 20% or less of the time. Plans the work to be accomplished by the unit, assigns work to employees, and establishes production or quality standards for the unit's work.* *

  Civil Engineer -- Operations Lead (GS-0810-11/12)

   

  Serves as a project manager overseeing large scale or high priority projects and strategic planning efforts that impact the National Forest as well as its associated partners, communities, other government and non-government organizations and other stake holders. High priority projects include but not limited to ones funded by Legacy Roads and Trails, Great American Outdoors Act, Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, disaster recovery (related to fire or Emergency Relief for Federal Owned Roads).

  Leads coordination, tracking, scheduling, planning, budget management and reporting for all special funding projects and project aspects.

  Assists Forest Leadership and Staff across multiple programs with the review, and submission of future-year projects. Responsible for all aspects of budget management, contracting and agreements, and the assessment and planning for staff and resources to support funded and planned projects. Provides expertise in establishing project scope and criteria; creates schedules and milestones; determines dependencies with other projects and applications; assigns roles, responsibilities, and work assignments to project team members; develops and analyzes assumptions, risks, and contingencies; and incorporates performance measurement criteria. Creates and maintains comprehensive project documentation.  Prepares reports and recommendations for management regarding the status of project and/or findings.
