  The Government Relations Specialist will work closely with the Director of Government Affairs and key stakeholders to shape and advance LCG’s policy priorities, support the strategy, and further promote access to quality early care and education. This role will be key in further building, developing, and advancing relationships with state lawmakers, legislative staff, agency staff, and advocates to improve LCG’s position as a thought leader on issues relevant to early childhood education.

  Essential Functions:

  Work with the Director of Government Affairs and key stakeholders to shape and advance LCG’s policy priorities, strategy, and promote access to quality early care and education in states.

  Build, develop, and advance relationships with state lawmakers, legislative staff, agency staff, and advocates to improve LCG’s positioning as a thought leader on issues relating to early childhood education.

  Independently identify, monitor, research, and analyze state legislation and regulation for emerging issues that may impact LCG operations, or the availability and affordability of quality early childhood education.

  Execute lobbying activities in assigned states, including direct advocacy, overseeing consultants and partnerships, complying with relevant reporting requirements, and documenting activities and impact through internal systems.

  Represent LCG before external audiences and collaborate effectively with external partners, including advocacy organizations, trade associations, coalitions, and interest groups, where interests align.

  Minimum Job Qualifications:

  Bachelor’s degree in political science, public policy, public relations, education or related field required.

  5+ years’ experience in state government relations, policy, and advocacy required.

  Experience in early childhood education, education, healthcare, energy, or another highly regulated sector preferred.

  Exceptional written and oral communication skills and ability to communicate well with a variety of stakeholders, including media.

  Travel

  Up to 25% domestic travel

  Other Skills and Abilities Qualifications:

  Excellent customer service skills with both internal and external customers.

  Capable of working with frequent interruptions and changing priorities.

  Effective communication skills, written, verbal and interpersonal.

  Proficient time management, organizational skills, and ability to meet established deadlines.

  Skilled in developing and presenting to a variety of audiences both in-person and virtually.

  Exceptional ability to communicate with a variety of stakeholders including media.

  Capable of building and maintaining strong relationships with varying levels of internal and external stakeholders.

  Ability to work independently.

  Skilled in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
