  Jack Link's Protein Snacks is a global leader in snacking and the No. 1 meat snack manufacturer worldwide. Jack Link's Protein Snacks family of brands includes Jack Link's, Lorissa's Kitchen, World Kitchens Jerky, Bifi and Peperami.

  Shifts: 2nd shift M-Th 2:30p-2am.  There is overtime on some days.

  Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  Safety:

  Perform all duties within OSHA and company safety standards; LOTO, wear PPE and maintain safety equipment.

  Maintain a safe, clean and organized work area

  Immediately report all accidents and deficiencies to management; complete accident investigations

  Ensure safety devices are installed and working properly

  Monitor work environment for general food safety hazards such as condensation monitoring, etc.

  Leadership:

  Build and support a culture at the plant which values personnel safety and food safety.

  Build and support a culture of openness and accountability within (and outside) the assigned department.

  Demonstrate professionalism; encourage and insist on positive attitudes and behaviors from team members.

  Discuss work goals vs. actual output with employees to motivate and engage employees to assure targets are met.

  Encourage employee initiative and innovation, and show recognition for effort & achievement.

  Create and cultivate positive work relationships at all levels of the plant/organization.

  Communication:

  Communicate with peers, subordinates, and leaders in an effective, timely manner.

  Keep management informed daily of problems incurred during the shift.

  Communication to and for the team.

  Confer with appropriate personnel to coordinate activities between departments.

  Work with QA personnel to ensure all standards are met.

  Suggest improvements; continuously improve the quality of all support activities.

  Personnel:

  Follow good manufacturing practices and HACCP training, along with company pre-requisite programs, SOP’s, and SSOP’s.

  Enforce all safety rules and company policies; provide appropriate interpretation of company policies and safety policies for team members.

  Ensure proper staffing is maintained, including interviewing and hiring new team members

  Implement and monitor training for new hires & continuing training of current team members.

  Maintain attendance records, counsel employees with poor attendance, & follow up with coaching/discipline as appropriate

  Appraise work performance: conduct appropriate reviews for team members; give coaching/discipline as appropriate in a consistent and timely manner.

  Review, correct, and approve timekeeping tool to ensure team members are paid correctly each pay period.

  Responsibilities:

  Assist FSQ Manager to:

  Ensure all local, state and federal regulatory issues are identified & adhered to. 

  Fulfill product exporting requirements.

  Work with agency personnel and respond to issues in a timely manner. 

  Ensure compliance with 9 CFR, Chapter lll, part 417 - Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) Systems

  Ensure compliance with 9 CFR, Chapter III, Part 416 - Sanitation.

  Process Control & Laboratory:

  Ensure specification data base accuracy

  Net Weight monitoring, corrective actions, record keeping, and reporting

  consumer complaint investigation, corrective actions, record keeping, and reporting

  Monitor Return-to-Vendor (RTV) items, investigate issues, determine disposition, and follow up with corrective action, record keeping, and reporting

  Defective material investigation, corrective actions, record keeping, and reporting.

  Ensure compliance with raw material and supply, and final product Acceptable Quality Level (AQL) standards

  Monitor and manage a quality systems laboratory capable of conducting chemical testing of in process and finished products as required by corporate Food Safety and Quality objectives.

  Audit operational records for content and accuracy. 

  Compile, store and retrieve Production/Quality data, including process monitoring, testing, verification, and corrective action

  Execute the product retention program, and apply knowledge to product and process improvement. 

  Assist FSQ manager and SQF practitioner with SQF implementation and communication to ensure objectives are met and certification in maintained. Successfully complete the SQF training course and participate in the internal QMS Audit program. 

  Assist FSQ Manager with product research and development projects to ensure test objectives are met and new products are implemented smoothly during scale up.

  Ability to perform activities of workers supervised

  General:

  Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines and handle multiple projects simultaneously.

  Superior accuracy and attention to detail

  Ability to find a solution for or to deal proactively with work-related problems

  Must be able to pass a drug screen

  Regular attendance is essential

  Other duties as assigned

  REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  Education and/or Experience

  Associates degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; or one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge and experience in meat processing, food processing, or related field are desirable to perform the duties of this position. 

  REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE and ABILITIES:

  An aptitude for math is required.

  Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines and handle multiple projects simultaneously.

  Superior accuracy and attention to detail.

  Ability to find a solution for or to deal proactively with work-related problems

  Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and/or maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.

  Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.

  Ability to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.

  Ability to organize and prioritize in a multi-tasking environment

  Ability to collaborate with remote employees and work as part of a team.

  Must have exceptional time management skills.

  Firm knowledge of quality assurance methods, product testing methods, standard measurements, regulatory compliance standards, and documentation procedures

  Proficient in Internet navigation, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

  Must demonstrate effective leadership, problem solving, presentation, and employee motivational skills.

  Ability to adapt in a rapidly changing environment.

  Ability to independently manage and organize individual projects and work as part of the team. 

  PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and talk or hear.  The employee is occasionally required to sit, and reach with hands and arms.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.

  WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The work environment is a plant / office setting with varying degrees of temperatures and noise levels. Exposure to manufacturing equipment movement and wet / slippery floors. Travel may be required.
