**INTERNAL OPPORTUNITY ONLY – Must be currently employed with the Florida Department of Corrections to be considered for this position.
This advertisement is for a Career Service position located at Lowell Annex Classification in the Classification Department.
Salary Range: $53,440.14
SALARY WILL BE DETERMINED IN ACCORDANCE WITH CURRENT PAY POLICY. PROMOTIONS TO THE POSITION GENERALLY DO NOT EXCEED THE MAXIMUM OF THE ABOVE LISTED SALARY RANGE.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for managing a caseload of inmates preparing to be released from FDOC.
Responsible for recommending the custody classification and the institutional and program assignments of inmates at a correctional institution.
Evaluates information from reports, interviews, and correspondence for recommendations for inmate custody classification, program participation and work/program assignment for inmates in special statuses and reviews inmates for special status recommendation.
Prepares inmate management plans.
Supervises and evaluates inmate progress and prepares progress reports for inmates within 60 days of release.
Serves as the assistant supervisor in a classification section.
Assists the Classification Supervisor in the administrative functions of the classification sections.
Maintains inmate information on the department offender database system.
Assists in training new classification staff.
Evaluates, monitors and record inmate gain time awards.
Responds to inmate requests, correspondence, and telephone inquiries.
Observe and interact with inmates at their work assignment, housing assignment and educational/vocational assignment. Visit confinement/management units as necessary.
Manages the Close Management/Death Row Officer caseload.
Serves as a backup to the Release Officer
Attends mandatory and other training as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITY (KSA’s):
Knowledge of the techniques for advising, interviewing and/or counseling individuals.
Knowledge of the offender database system.
Ability to interview and counsel.
Ability to review and analyze data.
Ability to describe facts and events accurately.
Ability to apply laws, applicable rules, and procedures.
Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate assignments.
Ability to communicate effectively.
Ability to use office computer applications.
Ability to work independently and/or under stressful conditions.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Possess one (2) years of Classification experience.
A year of college; security or other corrections related work may substitute for (1) year of classification experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Preference will be given to applicants with the following qualifications:
Experience with file audit and custody procedures.
Possess a working knowledge of disciplinary processes.
Capability to handle large volumes of inmate change and movement.
