Sanitation Requirements: For food and general personal safety purposes,all workers will be required and expected to follow common sanitarypractices at all times. This is particularly critical when handharvesting crops for human consumption. Employees are required tocleanse their hands by washing them thoroughly with soap and water afterusing the bathroom and before entering the fields for harvest activitiesor the packing facility for packing operations.
Workers will perform various duties associated with growing the cropslisted below to include transplanting crops, weeding by hand or withhoe, laying and moving irrigation pipe, harvesting crops manually,sorting crops, washing and packing crops.
Various vegetable and fruit crops: Beet, Celery, Radishes, Sweet Corn,Green Beans, Tomatoes, Peppers (hot and sweet), Melons, Cucumbers,soybeans field corn & pumpkins
Flowers, Golden Beets, Eggplant, Zucchini, Apples.
Workers will plant, cultivate, and harvest vegetables. Workers will berequired to remove weeds by hand or with a hoe. Workers will bend andstoop to pick vegetables according to size, color, shape and degree ofmaturity and place into field containers. Workers may carry fullcontainer weighing approximately fifty (50) lbs. and empty into fieldbin or load onto trailer. May be required to pull and discard culls asdirected by supervisor. Pickers will take care not to bruise or scarproduce. Pre-harvest activities may include staking, tying,transplanting, and pruning. Workers will stand on feet for long periodsof time. Workers are required to work in fields when plants are wet withdew or rain. Temperatures in fields during working hours can range fromforty (40) to over one hundred (100) degrees.
Equipment Operations: Workers may be required to operate tractors, andother farm equipment during operations. Before any worker is required tooperate farm equipment, the worker will be instructed in the proper andsafe operation. Workers will be required to operate equipment accordingto instructions and in a manner that protects the operator, otherworkers, and equipment. Workers will operate employers vehicles onpublic roadways. Repeated failure to obey operating and safetyinstructions may result in termination.
Orchard Maintenance and clean up: Workers will be responsible forgeneral orchard clean up. They will rake up debris from the land such assticks, straw, etc. Workers involved in orchard maintenance may berequired to hoe trees, girdle, spread fertilizer, pick up roots andlimbs, strip suckers or unwanted growth from trees, dig root suckers,knock fruit off trees, use hand sprayer, remove vines, lay irrigationpipe, repair and maintain drip system, and strap and tie fruit trees.Employer will provide all equipment. Instruction will be given for eachtask and standards of performance communicated to workers. The specificstandards for a job will be disclosed and demonstrated by the supervisorbefore the work begins.
