This position requires an individual who has significant employee and labor relations experience, deep subject matter knowledge, and strong communication and interpersonal skills that enables the individual to work successfully on a broad spectrum of employee and labor relations issues and projects. The position supports Amazon’s Japan Operations.
The central objective of Amazon’s employee relations is to ensure our organization’s treatment of employees is fair, respectful, and consistent with our framework of our core business values and objectives. To support that objective, this position’s responsibilities fall into proactive and reactive categories. The individual will work as a project manager on proactive programs that improve local and network employee relations. The individual also will work reactively on critical employee relations issues that are crisis-oriented and typically can only be successfully completed with limited time. Balancing time between projects and crisis-response is a critical component for success in the position.
The position reports to the Sr. ER Manager, Japan Operations. The role will be based in Tokyo, Japan (Meguro office). Partner with senior managers and HR teams to create and sustain positive employee relations programs and best practices
Design and conduct multiple positive labor relations trainings and communications
Design, collect, and analyze multiple levels of employee feedback
Conduct and oversee employee relations and vulnerability assessment programs
Partner to engage in continuous improvement in communication vehicles and practices
Analyze, diagnose, design, and revise people programs, policies, and practices to sustain positive employee relations

Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent experience
12+ years of experience in HR or ER leadership role (s)
Knowledge on local employment laws & labor regulation
Experience in coaching senior leaders, managers and HR professionals
Business level English and Japanese
Preferred Qualifications
Strong business acumen & analytical skills; understanding of metrics to support plans and monitor performance
Ability to work independently, as well as an active member of both business and HR teams
Excellent written & verbal communication; high quality document preparation, presentation, facilitation skills
Exceptional listening skills; ability work well across functions to integrate HR and business strategies, to relate to, influence, and coach employees of all levels in the organization
Experience working with manufacturing, FMCG handling unionized workforce
Proven ability to diagnose issues, drawing on both professional experience and strategic thinking skills, and drive appropriate solutions with self-initiative
Not hindered by ambiguity or competing priorities; This means you are not only able to develop and drive initiatives, but can also roll up your sleeves, dig in, and get the job done.
Strong talent assessment skills
