You will serve as an Engineer or Scientist in the NUWC Division Newport Employee Rotational Program in the Test & Evaluation Track and be assigned to the Engineering Operations & Analysis Division (Code 702) Responsibilities In Code 70 you will participate in the development of test planning, execution, evaluation and documentation of configuration items within the C70 portfolio. In Code 70 you will perform range user operator interface development and testing, including range tracking solutions. In Code 85 you will perform test preparation, test execution and test evaluation of undersea weapons that are in the C85 portfolio. in Code 85 you will develop test objectives, requirements verification matrices, detailed test procedures and test analysis and reports. In Code 45 you will perform test preparation, test execution and test evaluation of Unmanned Undersea Vehicles (UUV) that are in the C45 portfolio. You will participate in cross-departmental tasking within the Test and Evaluation Track and gain knowledge in a variety of Test and Evaluation disciplines. You will rotate through three positions within Codes 45, 85, and 70 (not necessarily in that order) lasting approximately six months each for a total of 1.5 years. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications This is an interdisciplinary position and may be filled by a Mechanical Engineer (0830-series), a Computer Engineer (0854-series), an Electronics Engineer (0855-series), a Mathematician (1520-series), or a Computer Scientist (1550-series), depending upon the qualifications of the candidate. Education Applicants must meet at least one of the following positive education qualifications requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Professional Engineering Series (08XX) - Degree: A professional engineering degree from an ABET-accredited college or university; OR a degree with curriculum in differential and integral calculus, with additional courses in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics; or electronics; OR Professional Engineering Series (08XX) - Substitution of Education/Experience: A combination of education and experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying professional engineering; and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering. The adequacy of such background must be demonstrated by one of the following: (a) professional registration, (b) evidence of successfully passing the Engineer-in-Training (EIT) examination; (c) successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the courses specified above; or (d) successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in engineering technology or in an appropriate professional field, e.g., physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, may be accepted in lieu of a degree in engineering provided that it included at least 1 year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance. The total coursework described above must have included differential and integral calculus and, in addition, four advanced mathematics courses requiring calculus or equivalent mathematics courses as a prerequisite; OR 1550-Computer Science Series: A bachelor's or higher degree in computer science; or a bachelor's or higher degree with at least 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. At least 15 of these 30 semester hours must have been in a combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus.
