Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) is an 8-10-bed unit dedicated toproviding personalized and compassionate attention throughout more severeillnesses and injuries. Pediatric critical care nurses are trained andequipped to treat patients with severe infections, diabetes, andrespiratory diseases like pneumonia, bronchiolitis and asthma of all degreesof severity, including ventilated patients. The nurse-to-patient ratio is1:2. Denver Health is designated as a Level II Pediatric Trauma Center bythe American College of Surgeons.
Job Summary
Under the supervision of an RN, performs basic patient care activities. TheNursing Apprentice II role provides an opportunity for students that havegraduated from a nursing program to enhance clinical skills in a hospitalenvironment when applying for licensure/registration to the NursingRegulatory Body to take the NCLEX Examination. The Nursing Apprentice IIadheres to the American Nurses Association (ANA) standards of professionalnursing and performance, and the ANA Code of Ethics (2015) to providecare to all patients. Essential Functions:
Performs basic patient care activities as delegated and supervised by an RN,including but not limited to, monitoring vital (25%)Signs, taking blood glucose measurements, and recording intake and output.(10%)Assists patients with tending to personal care and activities of dailyliving, including but not limited to, bathing, grooming and eating. (10%)Reports abnormal findings or changes in physical, mental and emotionalconditions to nursing staff. (10%)Assists with keeping unit(s) and patient rooms stocked, clean, andorderly. (10%)Develop specific clinical nurse skills through observation of experts andsupervised, hands-on experience. (10%)Documentation that complies with clinical guidelines. (10%)Partners with interprofessional team on healthcare consumer throughput byproactively solving problems related to capacity and healthcare consumer flow.(10%)Collaborates with interprofessional teams to incorporate Lean principles forquality improvement initiatives.
