Ensures that the Company maintains compliance with all applicable Federal, State, and local regulations.POSITION DEMANDS (Education/Training)* Typically has a High School diploma or GED; with typical 4years of directly related experience or AS Degree in related EHS field.* Must have some working knowledge of Occupational Safety & Health (OSHA) 1915 and 1910.* A minimum of three years of experience performing the duties of a Safety Inspector.* A minimum of three years of full-time experience directly related to safety enforcement and related duties comparable to a Safety Inspector in industrial or commercial plants and/or construction sites.* Continuing education in approved Health and Safety related courses towards a Professional Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent.* Must have, or be able to complete and pass, courses including; 1) OSHA 3095, 2) OSHA 5410, and 3) Shipyard Competent Person.POSITION DEMANDS (Required Experience)* Learn safety codes and standards, accident prevention principles, and their application to industrial operations; to learn techniques of making field inspections, conducting investigations, and identifying hazards; and other relevant skills.* Conduct daily inspections of assigned areas ensuring that all operations (including those of Sub-Contractors) are in compliance with Federal, State and local regulationsand NASSCO Health and Safety policies and procedures; identify health and safety hazards or deficiencies and initiates corrective action through production supervision.* Prepare written reports on inspections, accident investigations, statistical information on injuries and illnesses, employee complaints or concerns.* Review current literature and trade publications in order to remain current regarding all OSHA and other applicable health and safety standards and regulations.* Establish a close working relationship and communicate with department/ship manager on a regular basis.* Able to identify/locate various compartments on board vessels.* Must be able to gain access to government facilities.* Must have current driver's license.* Must have the ability to communicate effectively in English in both oral and written applications in order to successfully interact with management and employees.* Other responsibilities and duties as assigned.* Preferably has OSHA 5410 Occupational Safety and Health Standards for the Maritime Industry training.* Preferably has OSHA 3095 Electrical Standards training.* Preferably had OSHA 3115 Fall Protection* Preferably has OSHA 521 OSHA Guide to Industrial HygienePHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSX Carrying X Lifting X WalkingX Climbing X Pulling X Must be able to go on vesselsX Crawling X Sitting X Visual Requirements:X Crouching X Standing X Other: Able to wear respiratorX Hearing X StoopingX Kneeling X TalkingVision Requirements:A vision exam is required every ten (10) years to ensure:* Natural or corrected near-distance visual acuity in at least one eye able to read the J-1 letters on Standard Jaeger Test Chart, or equivalent, at a distance of not less than:* 12 inches (30 cm) with one or both eyes, corrected or uncorrected.* Color perception using the Ishihara Test or the Farnsworth D-15 Test.
