　　WHAT WE CAN ACHIEVE TOGETHER

　　The Downeast Land Relations Steward is a full-time, permanent positioncoordinating land stewardship/management activities on the NatureConservancy\'s more than 30,000 acres of preserves and several easementsin the Downeast region, with a focus on collaborating with a broad setof partners to advance stewardship capacity, collaboration, anddemonstrating exemplary land management in this geography. Reporting tothe Director of Land Management, the Downeast Land Relations Stewardrepresents TNC Maine in the iconic and important regional geography ofHancock and Washington counties in Downeast Maine. As a member of theland management team as well as other thematically focused teams, thisperson will help partners to understand the interdisciplinary approachesto land and water conservation in which TNC Maine has been engaged inDowneast Maine for more than 60 years. Part land steward and partconservation community liaison, this person performs land managementfunctions at TNC preserves and across easements east of Ellsworth, andestablishes collaborative relationships with neighbors, communitymembers, state and local officials, funders, partners, the media, andlandowners, including other land trusts in this geography. Through acurious, humble, and professional approach, the Downeast Land RelationsSteward will develop and maintain authentic relationships with State,Federal, Tribal, Municipal, and NGO partners. A passion for the naturalworld and affinity for the humans who depend on it, particularlyDowneast, will be necessary for success. This person will need tounderstand ecological principles, and have experience in managingprojects and contracts, as well as a keen ability to listen and thinkbroadly about approaches to conservation and community issues. Residency in the region will be critical todeveloping relationships with lands and people. Travel to Brunswickmonthly will also be necessary to connect with TNC colleagues, andattendance in regular remote meetings will also be necessary.RESPONSIBILITIES & SCOPE* Collaborates with and supports Conservation,Finance, Governm nt Relations, Land Management, Legal, Philanthropy, andCommunications colleagues on conservation projects that advance TheNature Conservancy\'s priorities.* Provide land management servicestowards the achievement of stewardship needs and goals in the Downeastregion of Maine. Manages all aspects of land stewardship incollaboration with the land management team: scopes newly acquired sitesand develops plans for managing recreation and general infrastructure,including signage, roads and bridges, trails, as well as restorationprojects, monitors public use, develops and implements strategies toresolve land use issues, including conflicts between different users,overuse of fragile areas, illegal activities and encroachment. Ensuresthe maintenance of stewardship-related equipment, vehicles and boats,and work and storage areas.* Contributes to legal monitoringrequirements of fee owned lands as well as conservation easement anddeed restriction monitoring.* Participates in and contributes topartnerships with local, state, federal, and tribal governments, andother partners.* Participates in ecological monitoring and restorationefforts.* May partner with Development staff to fundraise for projectsincluding helping to cultivate potential corporate, foundation, andindividual donors.* May work in variable weather conditions, at remotelocations, on difficult and hazardous terrain and under physicallydemanding circumstances.
