Job Description:
Duties/Responsibilities
The Director of Physician Engagement is an extension of hospital leadership and operations, focused on building lasting relationships with external physicians and providers to grow hospital volumes specific to campus location, and engage medical professionals with existing or potential patient referral needs for services Scottish Rite for Children is able to provide.
Actively prospects for new relationships in the field and works in partnership with strategy and planning to develop and execute data-driven, strategic plans for the physician liaison team to grow hospital volumes through inpatient admissions, outpatient clinical services and surgical volumes.
Identifies obstacles or concerns throughout the hospital as they relate to access and referral process and works in partnership with key hospital stakeholders to provide long-term solutions and improve processes to uphold standards of excellence.
Advocates for external medical professional needs as they relate to access, provider-to-provider communication, referrals, patient education and provider resources and medical education.
Works in conjunction with Chief of Strategy and Business Development with internal medical staff and SRC leadership to define growth targets regarding promotion of hospital service lines and represent hospital programs and medical staff with accuracy and effectiveness to external medical professionals.
Serves as liaison to connect and introduce hospital physicians with community and regional physicians and provide educational lectures, Q&A sessions, conferences and meet and greets as needed.
Works with the hospital communications team to provide customer needs and feedback from physician liaison field work to help inform high-quality communication to this audience as it relates to patient needs and referrals, physician consultation, medical education and overall service.
Customers include physicians and surgeons practicing within pediatrics, family medicine, orthopedics, emergency medicine and urgent care, community and regional hospital system leadership, ER/urgent care leadership and staff, advanced practice providers, surgical leadership, and physician office staff.
Uses internal and external data and resources to develop an understanding of service line attributes, trends and opportunities to develop a clear service line strategy and growth plan with measurable results.
Works closely with hospital strategy and planning team, and in collaboration with leadership, to evaluate internal referral and market data for facility service lines to identify priorities, create data-driven customer target lists, call cycles, and develop outreach plans with measurable results.
Identifies issues and barriers to referral growth and communicates to leadership using CRM system.
Maintains liaison role in field territory.
Educates customers on services offered by facility and effectively conveys expertise and capabilities.
Completes consultative outreach meetings with customers to gain a thorough understanding of customer needs, business and challenges, and uses that understanding to develop outreach plan and customer-focused solutions to drive facility growth.
Develops understanding of customer’s business and challenges and uses that understanding to develop outreach plan and customer-focused solutions.
Manages issue resolution processes and works to implement solutions and complete follow-up meetings to gain or retain business.
Utilizes CRM system to track and trend strategic action plans, targeted activities, issue resolution and results.
Prepares and presents reports as required by leadership to identify trends, new business opportunities and obstacles to business growth.
Maintains membership for Physician and Provider Relations team members with the American Association of Physician Liaisons and actively utilizes association opportunities for training, best practices and industry standards.
Required Skills/Abilities
Bachelor's degree required
Five years of experience in Physician Outreach, Sales and/or Marketing/Communication including multiple-year experience as a physician liaison with field knowledge and expertise.
Must have managerial skills and experience to supervise physician liaison staff.
Must have proficient computer skills and working knowledge of customer relationship management software, Windows, Excel and Power Point.
Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within field of physician outreach.
Critical thinking, time management skills, effective communication and professional writing skills are required.
Must have ability to multi-task and work with minimal supervision. Creativity and problem-solving skills are required.
Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with other health professionals as well as substantial interpersonal skills necessary to communicate with community and regional medical professionals, leadership and hospital staff.
Proficient in working within an integrated healthcare organization.
