  The Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) is seeking a dedicated Director of the Massachusetts Cancer Registry. As the Director, you will play an essential role in shaping the future of cancer surveillance and research. Your responsibilities include spearheading major grant and contract proposals. Leading a dynamic team of certified tumor registrars and epidemiologists, you will oversee the capture, management, and reporting of cancer data across the state, ensuring compliance with legislative authority. Your strategic vision and leadership will be crucial in facilitating statewide cancer reporting and modernizing Massachusetts Cancer Registry (MCR) operations by adopting electronic data exchange and cutting-edge informatics methods. By expanding policies and procedures, you will enhance productivity and efficiency, implementing new procedures and best practices for cancer reporting from diverse sources. Additionally, you will represent MCR on national committees and workgroups, collaborating with partners like the National Program on Cancer Registries and the North American Association of Central Cancer Registry. Your involvement in special projects reflects your commitment to advancing equitable and comprehensive cancer data practices. This role empowers you to contribute to a population-based cancer research agenda, establishing MCR as a leader in state, national, and international cancer surveillance efforts. Join us in shaping the future of cancer data and making a lasting impact on public health. _Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and are not all inclusive):_ * Manage, and execute major grant and contract proposals. * Generate additional sources of funding to support and grow MCR operations and analytic agenda. * Supervise a team of operations staff and epidemiologists. * Ensure compliance with legislative authority for cancer case collection and oversee data collection activities by healthcare facilities to meet national standards. * Lead strategic planning for modernizing MCR operations through electronic data exchange and informatics methods. * Enhance productivity and efficiency through policy and procedure expansion, including implementation of new reporting procedures. * Communicate with reporting facilities on cancer reporting requirements and changes, maintaining up-to-date knowledge in the field. * Anticipate and mitigate and lead the expansion of policies and procedures to enhance MCR productivity and efficiency. * Expand statewide cancer reporting to include molecular and multi-omics diagnostic reports, structured treatment information, and patient outcomes. * Represent MCR on national committees and workgroups, collaborating with partners like the North American Association of Central Cancer Registries (NAACCR), and the American College of Surgeons' Commission. * Participate in special projects such as the DPH Data Modernization Initiative and Equity Centered Data Strategic Plan. * Develop materials and presentations for meetings, conferences, and presentations on population-based cancer research, applying a health equity lens. * Serve as a liaison for MCR, meeting with internal and external agencies, participating in state, national, and international cancer surveillance activities, and ensuring efficient MCR functioning. * Building partnerships with research institutions and academic health centers to advance the goals of cancer control and prevention. _Preferred Qualifications:_ * Demonstrated leadership abilities. * Background in Public Health research and practice. * Knowledge of the principles and practices of public health, program management, public administration, and human services. * Knowledge of the principles, procedures, and terminology of malignant disease staging and tumor classification by primary site and histology. * Understanding of hospital and central cancer registry data and operating standards. * Experience with electronic health records, clinical oncology standards, and emerging data standards. * Strong communication and presentation skills, including interpreting and explaining policies and procedures. * Experience in program planning, development, integration, coordination, cross-functioning linkage, and policy setting. * Ability to assemble, analyze, summarize, and draw conclusions from data and make appropriate recommendations concerning data. * Demonstrated analytical skills and experience in resolving complex issues, process improvement, and resolving conflicts. * Experience in strategic planning for the modernization of cancer registry operations through adopting emerging informatics methods for data capture and expanding the cancer registry dataset. * Knowledge of national and international cancer surveillance activities. _About the Department of Public Health:_ The mission of the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) is to prevent illness, injury, and premature death, to assure access to high quality public health and health care services, and to promote wellness and health equity for all people in the Commonwealth. MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must have at least (A) six (6) years of full-time or, equivalent part-time, professional, administrative, supervisory, or managerial experience in a particular specialty (i.e. scientific, professional, or technical) and must possess current license and/or registration requirements established for the performance of the position, of which (B) at least two (2) years must have been in a project management, supervisory or managerial capacity or (C) any equivalent combination of the required experience and substitutions below. Substitutions: I. A certificate in a relevant or related field may be substituted for one (1) year of the required (A) experience. II. A Bachelor’s degree in a related field may be substituted for two (2) years of the required (A) experience. III. A Graduate degree or higher in a related field may be substituted for three (3) years of the required (A) experience. IV.
