  Position Summary

  Columbia Business School is pleased to announce that we are seeking a Director, Career Education & Advising to join the high energy, mission-driven team in the Career Management Center (CMC). This role will provide a unique opportunity for a highly-talented, team-first professional with a passion for working with students to become part of a world-class, Ivy League institution.

  The Director reports to the Assistant Dean, Career Education & Advising (CEA) and works as part of a seven-person team to advise and educate the Business School's 1,500+ full-time MBA and MBAxMS students. The Director supervises two Senior Associate Directors in the delivery of career advising and oversees administration of marquee career programs and projects throughout the year. S/he also conducts individual advising sessions, small group workshops and large course presentations.

  Responsibilities

  Coaches MBAs on complete range of career planning and job search issues. Researches and develops advising programs and job search initiatives for those who are using the MBA to facilitate a career change. Works closely with the Employer Relations team to maintain a working understanding of the logistics and policies related to the on-campus recruiting process (OCR); educates students on OCR and off-campus recruiting opportunities and procedures. Performs data collections and analyses, logistical functions and administrative tasks as needed to assist in managing advising and program delivery.

  Supervises Senior Associate Directors to create, launch and lead various initiatives. Oversees development and delivery of programs, including determining content for workshops and scheduling, training and evaluating instructors. Teaches training sessions and workshops as needed.

  Works with Assistant Dean to define goals and metrics, develop curriculum, marketing, and evaluation plans for education sessions. Develops, co-manages, and delivers in conjunction with other CEA team members relevant educational programs, meetings, and seminars; trains and manages student leaders or outside consultants for these programs as needed. Creates and delivers market-driven workshops on an as-needed basis.

  Oversees CMC Fellows Program. Facilitates monthly meetings with student board representatives, acts as liaison for two-way exchange of time-sensitive career related information, partners with students to problem-solve issues of concern and provides relevant and timely feedback to the Assistant Dean, Career Education & Advising, and, as needed, the Executive Director of International & MS Career Management and Director of Employer Relations.

  Develops and maintains key relationships with select professional student clubs, Centers and Programs, and affiliated student leaders. Partners with CMC Coaching Program to provide as-needed industry support to student clubs.

  Participates in all-office events and initiatives, including on-campus recruiting, career fairs, orientation, student, and recruiter surveys, monthly All Hands meetings and departmental and team off-sites. Advises the Employer Relations team on development of policies and procedures related to the on-campus recruiting program as well as on individual student issues.

  Represents office in interactions with a wide range of internal and external constituents, including faculty, Dean's office, Executives-in-Residence, administrators in other departments, professionals from the private and public sectors, and counterparts at peer schools as needed.

  Performs other duties as assigned.

  Minimum Qualifications

  Bachelor's degree and/or its equivalent required; MBA highly preferred. Minimum 5-7 years related experience.

  In-depth understanding of MBA jobs in at least one MBA target industry.

  Demonstrated advising experience in either a corporate or academic setting. Strong knowledge of software including MS Excel and PowerPoint; familiarity with CRM tools a plus.

  Ability to travel when requested (up to 5% of time).

  Outstanding interpersonal/relationship management, communication, and writing skills, previous advising/mentoring experience, teaching and/or presentation skills a must.

  Customer service orientation and proven ability to excel in a high-volume environment.

  Ability to balance independent delivery of work with strong team work/collaborative orientation.

  Experience managing others in a customer-focused environment a plus.

  Ability to work flexible, long hours and early mornings/late evenings on a seasonal basis to meet student needs; some evening and weekend work may be necessary.

  Preferred Qualifications

  MBA, HR, Higher Education or other Master's degree, along with 7+ years related experience strongly preferred. Superior business and political acumen, demonstrated ability to lead.
