Jones County Sheriff's Office is recruiting for Detention Officers to perform specialized law enforcement work in the care and security of inmates in the Detention Center. The Detention Center is a 21 bed facility that holds both male and female inmates.

　　This job requires the constant control, custody, and supervision of inmateswho have been charged with several charges awaiting trial in a secured facility. It also requires you to maintain the safety and security operations of the detention center.

　　Must be 21 or olderRequired by State of NCMust have a valid driver's license with a clean driving record.Must pass a criminal background check, physical,drug screening, and psychological evaluation.Must be in good physical condition as you may have to run, lift objects greater than 100 pounds.High school diploma/GEDSuccessfully complete a Detention Officer Certification Course within the first year.Shifts are 12-hour rotating shifts to include nights, weekends, and holidays.

　　GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES

　　Under general supervision, performs specialized law enforcement work in the care and security of inmates in the Detention Center. Work involved admitting and booking inmates, ensuring security of inmates and the center, and preparing inmates for court appearances. Issues clothing, personal hygiene supplies, and linens; observes inmates to recognize need for medical attention. Employee is subject to the usual hazards of jail management work, Reports to the Detention Captain.

　　SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

　　ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

　　Restrains inmates using handcuffs and other restraints if necessaryAdmits prisoners to the Detention Center; ensures that inmates are properly booked and searched, and allowed calls to attorneys and relatives or bondsmen; advises inmates of rules and regulations.Secures inmate property, properly storing and returning appropriate items upon release.Reviews logs and reports from previous shifts; maintains knowledge of inmate population and cell assignments; completes activity logs and reports; completes incident reports if necessary.Supervises and/or operates control room and monitors security cameras to view areas of the jail; performs visual and audio surveillance of doors and activities of inmates and staff.Observes inmates' demeanor to determine illness and/or mental state and possible need for treatment and/or closer observation; transport when necessary.Issues linen, clothing, toilet supplies, supervises shower and inventory suppliesReceives and directs incoming callsDistributes mail to inmates; provides inmates with paper, pencil, and envelopes; collects outgoing mail from inmates.Inspects the cleaning of the center to meet requirements of state and local regulations and standards.Patrols entire area periodically to prevent escapes and maintain order; pursues inmates when necessary.Assists visitors, inspecting items brought to jail for inmates.Gathers information in criminal and administrative investigations through interviews and statements.Operates law enforcement vehicles.```{=html}
