Edo is an independent company with strategic investment from McKinstry andAvista.
Decarbonizing our electricity system is foundational to reducing ourcollective greenhouse gas emissions. At Edo, we work every day to create anenergy system that is reliable, equitable, and carbon-free.
The fundamental infrastructure and regulatory compact of our electrical gridwere designed for a different time and is hindering our ability to achieve ourenvironmental and economic goals. We cannot solve this problem at theindividual building scale - it's not economically or technologicallyfeasible. Edo will empower utilities and built environment leaders through apartnership model that unlocks rapid innovation towards the grid of thefuture. We must reimagine a physical and virtual grid that connects nodes ofprosumers. We will develop the technology and knowledge platform necessary toachieve impact through scale.
The Opportunity with Edo
We are looking for a Building Data Science Engineerto join Edo's R&Dteam, where you will develop tools to optimize energy use in buildings, reduce carbon emissions, and develop novel control sequences to shift andshed building load to reduce congestion on the electricity grid. You will workclosely with Edo's Software Development team and Edo's Operations team toanalyze timeseries data from buildings, visualize insights and developnovelmachine learning models to forecast and optimize building operations.
Ideally, you will have industry experienceanalyzing timeseries data fromequipment systems in buildings, developing analytics and key performanceindicators (KPIs), and using machine learning to forecast and optimizebuilding performance. We are primarily looking for candidates with strongbackgrounds in three areas: (1) building energy engineering, includingHVAC and electrical systems; (2) data science, including core conceptslike data cleaning and normalization, linear algebra, statistics, andtimeseries analysis; and (3) programming, particularly contributing toPython data science packages and Jupyter notebooks.
Our solutions operate on massive amounts of streaming data, and you willgain experience deploying models in the cloud and on edge devices. You willalso work closely with domain experts to build a deep understanding of theelectricity grid, commercial building optimization, and opportunities fordeveloping a carbon-free future. Additional responsibilities include:Conduct timeseries analysis on data streaming from equipment systems inbuildings, and extend methods for cleaning, normalizing, and imputingmissing data.Collaborate with the software development team to develop and improve machinelearning algorithms for timeseries forecasting, fault detection, optimalcontrol, and classification.Propose novel solutions to problems, design experiments, testhypotheses, and improve predictive models.Evaluate the performance of trained models in production environments, andtune models as necessary.
What You Need to Succeed at Edo:Degree in Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, or a closely relatedquantitative field. Masters level preferred, but not required.Threeor more years of industry experience using datafrom equipment systems inbuildings to evaluate performance and identify opportunities for improvement.Three or more years of software development experience, particularly pythondata science tools and collaboration tools like Jupyter notebooks and GitHub.Three or more years of industry experience usingdata science and/or machinelearning.Familiarity with data analysis and machine learning techniques, includingdata cleaning, normalization, imputation, feature selection, hyperparameter tuning, error analysis, and ensemble modeling.Excellent communication skills with technical and non-technical audiences.Experience with SQL and/or timeseries databases preferred.Experience with time series forecasting us ng statistical regression, neuralnetworks, gradient boosting decision trees and/or ensemble models preferred.Experience with parameter estimation, Kalman filters, and optimizationpreferred. The pay range for this position is $102,600 - $157,200 per year;however, base pay offered my vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
