Description
Under general direction of the Conventions Manager, the Conventions Sales Coordinator is responsible for planning, organizing, promoting, and implementing a variety of convention sales efforts, programs, and events to encourage event meeting planners to visit the community and book events.
Principal Duties
Responsible for coordinating convention sales efforts & events in conjunction with the Conventions Manager; and for delivering an unparalleled experience throughout all stages of the sales process from inquiry to on-going post-event follow-up to ensure repeat business and referrals.
Foster new client opportunities via outbound efforts and networking to include but not limited to, recruiting convention business through relationship building with Meeting Planners; conducting sales calls; hosting site visits and FAM Tours; and promoting, bidding on events and potential meetings and conferences to be hosted in College Station.
Responsible for overseeing and coordinating the work activities of interns or part-time/seasonal staff which includes the following: interviewing, supervising, training, motivating, and evaluating performance; working with employees to correct deficiencies; identifying and resolving employee concerns and/or problems; directing work; and making hiring, terminating and disciplinary decisions or recommendations.
Manage, maintain, and utilize client database to develop leads, conduct sales calls, coordinate hotel room blocks within the city, identify new business, respond to requests for proposal and submit bid opportunities.
Develop and implement methods for improvement.
Prepare and manage cost center budget and achieve sales goals.
Plan and coordinate advertising, news releases, and public service announcements for meetings to include participating in on-camera media interviews and assisting with other promotional tourism-related communications.
Work collaboratively with other conventions division staff to provide logistics and high-quality experiences for each event.
Represent the department by serving on internal and external committees and boards as requested to include but not limited to, attending trade shows; maintaining partnerships with meeting planners; and providing community liaison services as the Visit College Station comprehensive knowledge base contact for meeting planners.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required:
Bachelor’s Degree in Hospitality or related field and three (3) years experience related to area of assignment, including supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Valid Texas Driver’s License. Knowledge of planning and program development. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Available to work weekends, evenings, and holidays.
Preferred:
Hospitality sales experience.
