This permanent position is for a Controller who will work in the Birmingham, Alabama region. This role's duties will require planning and directing all accounting operational functions, handling the accumulation and consolidation of financial data for internal and external financial statements, evaluating accounting and internal control systems, and leading departmental staff. Candidates who know how to effectively manage self and others within strict time constraints when providing client services will do well in this role along with creative types who can lead while also being a team player, generate innovative ideas, and challenge the status quo. Manage the timing for monthly billing and other cash management techniques to make sure cash collection is on time
Comfortable in taking on tasks beyond formal job responsibilities
Research, prepare and execute Finance Department initiatives such as software and systems implementation and other departmental or firm-wide improvements, as required
Assess, execute and streamline policies, procedures, controls and most methodologies
Responsible for month-end and year-end close of income statement and balance sheet, account reconciliations & G/L analysis
Oversee the activities of the finance department, such as accounts payable, billings & collections, and payroll
Assess deliverables of self and team to verify they meet client expectations
Collaborate with executive team and partners to make efficient and effective firm-wide operation possible
Prepare cash-flow reports, projecting cash needs at weekly and monthly intervals, daily cash management
Give financial reports to executive committee and partners each month
Manage the creation of and monthly monitoring of the annual budget and forecasts Requirements
Exemplary analytical, quantitative and social skills
Past work in technology, analytics and management experience highly valued
-Banking, mortgage, or commercial real estate industry experience highly preferred
CPA highly preferred
Strong organizational skills and a proven ability to meet deadlines
Prior work done in public accounting is desired
Able to build and deliver effective presentations to audiences with wide-ranging backgrounds
Ability to thrive in a dynamic, high pressure environment, to prioritize deals and adapt to quick changes while remaining diligent
Strong communication and interpersonal skills (verbal, written, and listening)
Progressive accounting experience, including as a Controller preferred
Observant, accurate and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment
Solid understanding of Monthly Forecasts
Budget forecasting experience preferred
Forecasting experience preferred
General familiarity with QuickBooks
Cash forecasting experience
Proficiency in forecasting & modeling
Demonstrated knowledge of Commercial Real Estate Investment
Adeptness in commercial real estate
BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, Economics or other business related field
Self-starter and strong ethical standards
