Qualifications
Education: Associates degree in related field.Experience:Minimum 2 years of Health Information Management (HIM) experience.Equivalency: Professional experience, beyond requirements, in a relatedfield may substitute for an Associate's degree requirement on a year foryear bCertification(s): One of the following is required: Certified CodingSpecialist (CCS); Certified Professional Coder (CPC); RegisteredHealth Information Administrator (RHIA); Registered Health InformationTechniciLicensure(s): None.
Responsibilities
POPULATION SPECIFIC CARENo direct patient care.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSAn employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of thefollowing essential functions. These examples do not include all of thefunctions which the employee may be expected to perform.1. Prepares queries and assists coders with correspondence to faculty ondocumentation clarification.2. Performs audits of the coding quality and provides feedback and educationto coders and clinical documentation improvement staff.3. Provides one-on-one training. Performs various coding assignments incorrelation to the education developed by the Coding Education and ComplianceSpecialist.4. Demonstrates an understanding of technology supporting all aspects ofcoding, coding resources, and coding technology.5. Demonstrates coding knowledge and skill by maintaining coding credentialsor pursuing advanced credentials.6. Develops and presents educational training to coders, physicians,staff, and clinical documentation integrity specialists.7. Performs second level review of encounters to verify DRG assignment foraccuracy of coding prior to billing.
