  JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  The Penn State College of Medicine, Department of Pediatrics Hematology Oncology, in Hershey, PA, is seeking a Clinical Research Coordinator to join the Experimental Therapeutics team within the Pediatric Research Resource Office. This position will be responsible for:

  1) Entry, verification, and validation of data into comprehensive databases which contain critical information regarding pediatric hematology and oncology patients and

  2) Specimen coordination related to tumor sequencing and banking of specimens.

  Qualifications: Qualified individuals must have the ability to perform the following duties: Compile, extract and enter data from primary sources (including patients’ electronic medical records, paper medical records, and other primary source documents); resolve any erroneous, discrepant, missing, incomplete or implausible data; contact preparers of the source documents for clarification to ensure that quality standards are achieved; enter data into database and validate data entries by reviewing, correcting, deleting, or re-entering data; purge duplicate files; contribute to improving technology used; work closely with all members of the research team in the maintenance of the database and its integration with other relevant databases; regularly report to members of the team and attend meetings as required; maintain confidentiality and HIPPA compliance as well as follow all internal and governmental regulations regarding clinical databases; secure data for confidentiality and back-up data on a regular basis; maintain knowledge of current regulations and technologies related to the data management functions; and assist in establishing and maintaining an effective and efficient records management system.

  Qualified individuals must also have the ability to coordinate the clinical research consent process, notify involved parties, and facilitate the procurement and delivery of specimens for processing for tumor sequencing and banking as well as perform other duties as assigned.

  The position includes interaction with a multidisciplinary team of physicians, nurses, clinical data managers and regulatory compliance specialists. In addition, this position involves working independently (with minimal supervision) on complex work assignments. Proficiency in time management, attention to detail and organization is critical to ensure effective and efficient data management. Excellent organization and communication skills are required. Certification as a Clinical Research Associate (CRA) is desirable.

  This position typically requires a Bachelor’s degree or higher (Master’s degree preferred) plus 10 years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  This is a limited-term position funded for one year from date of hire, with possibility of refunding.

  • Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Criminal Background Check
