ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Drives city buses; boards anddischarges passengers, including those who may need mobility assistance,at designated bus stops; collects fares from passengers; answersquestions and gives directions. Performs routine safety inspectionsprior to taking bus onto public roadway and at end of shift. Maintainseffective radio communications while on route to ensure safe and timelyarrivals and departures and transfers. Records ridership information andlogs daily fare accumulation. Checks bulletin board, daily assignmentboard, and is up to date on route information, schedule changes, detourinformation, weather conditions, etc. Maintains regular punctual andpredictable attendance, works overtime and extra hours as outlined inschedule descriptions. OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS Distributes printedinformational materials to passengers. Monitors and maintains theinterior and exterior condition of the vehicle. ***** OTHEREXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS: Requires considerable experience in theoperation of buses and related equipment supplemented by experienceworking with the general public or any equivalent combination ofexperience and training which provides the following knowledge,abilities and skills: Considerable knowledge of defensive drivingtechniques. Knowledge in the basic mechanical operation of buses andother vehicular equipment. Knowledge in the use and operation of radiocommunications systems. Ability to drive a bus safely and on schedule inall weather conditions. Ability to understand street maps anddirections. Ability to make independent decisions and exercise soundjudgment in stressful or emergency situations. Ability to maintaineffective relationships with other employees and the public and to dealwith the public in a courteous and tactful manner. Ability toeffectively serve passengers and follow ADA service requirements in asafe manner. Reliability in attendance and promptness in reporting towork. Ability to comply with the City Drug and Alcohol Policy and pass apre-employment physical and drug screen.
