　　Job Overview:

　　The summer internship program within Research and Development at BD provides the student with an opportunity to partner with peers, senior personnel, and supervisors who will provide informal mentoring and coaching towards success. Students will have the opportunity to be exposed to our process of designing and developing medical device products for different global markets. Selected students may work within cross-functional or interdisciplinary teams and may have multiple internal partners and customers.

　　Each intern will have an individual project and the opportunity to develop technical engineering expertise. Through our summer internship, students develop an extensive professional network, learn how to work in an engineering environment, build hands-on laboratory skills, and deliver business presentations showcasing their work. The summer internship program is a great opportunity to gain exposure to the medical device industry and BD’s culture.

　　Qualifications:

　　REQUIRED:

　　The candidate must be legally authorized to work in the United States without limitations and require no sponsorship for visa status now or in the future (e.g. H1-B status)

　　BS and/or MS/PhD student pursuing a degree in Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering

　　Proficiency in Microsoft suite of software (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint)

　　Ability to work 40 hours per week for duration of the 10 to 12-week summer internship period

　　Must be able to follow Standard Operating Procedures and have excellent documentation practices

　　PREFERRED:

　　BS Degree: Junior and Senior level Candidates

　　MS/PhD Degree: All levels are encouraged to apply

　　Ability to grasp complex concepts quickly

　　Proficiency in Solidworks, Instron Bluehill, Minitab, and MATLAB or other high-level programming language

　　Experience with 3D printing of materials preferred

　　Salary ranges have been implemented to reward associates fairly and competitively, as well as to support recognition of associates’ progress, ranging from entry level to experts in their field, and talent mobility. There are many factors, such as location, that contribute to the range displayed. The salary offered to a successful candidate is based on experience, education, skills, and actual work location. Salary ranges may vary for Field-based and Remote roles.
